Inappropriate?G'day,
This happens because the iPod's don't support many media formats (only MP3/Apple lossless/m4a/M4p/wav).
Unfortunately, at this time on songbird 1.1 there is nothing you can do about incompatible files except convert them in another app. Songbird will copy the files there, but they wont be seen.
However, Songbird 1.2 (due in the next 2 months or so) introduces Transcoding services (but no GUI unfortunately), so that Songbird itself can convert music between formats/transcode (ie, FLAC to MP3, etc) internally. Between Apple lossless (and windows media lossless) and Flac, there wouldn't be any quality lost, but unfortunately, quality would be lost between lossy formats (like WMA to Mp3). Unfortunately, that's simply the problem with iPod's. I always recommend people rip files as Lossless files, so that this is less of a problem.
In the future, I would imagine that automatic transcoding will happen for iPod's, but unsure when (there is only 1 developer on IRC currently it seems). -
Inappropriate?Same here, most of my library is in FLAC, but my walkman only plays MP3 and WMA. I hope that automatic transcoding will be implemented soon.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?I am having the same problem. I have over 6,000 songs and 4,000+ of them won't play on the Ipod. If this problem isn't going to be solved soon, I will have to switch back to ITunes (even though I completely hate ITunes).
I’m super emo sad.

G'day,
What formats are the 4000 of them that wont play on the ipod? -
Inappropriate?G'day,
Just an update. Jackson 5 due in August adds a bucketload of stuff that will help here:
1) Transcoding (so FLAC's will hopefully get converted to work on ipods automatically hopefully)
2) Firmware updating for devices built in. So you could plug in your media player, Songbird could tell you it need an update, and then it could help you update it (just like itunes and the ipods)
3) A few of the device extensions are being made open source. So this will make it easier for other developers to write extensions for devices :D
