songbird 1.2 crashes in Microsoft XP
I know a lot of people have reported crashes in various OS with songbird. But I couldn't find anything on Microsoft XP - a guy called Atreiu says his is working fine on XP. But I'm having all sorts of issues. Crashes like every 5 minutes. I haven't added any add-ons recently no settings changed in both my OS and songbird. It seems to me like it might be a problem with the update. It currently plays AT BEST upto one song before crashing.
Any comments, suggestions and ideas would be greatly appreciated (cause I love songbird and I hope this gets fixed quick!)

Inappropriate?Hi there Naegling,
Have you used previous versions of songbird before? If yes, is this a problem that appeared with version 1.2.0 ? -
Inappropriate?Hi Lenny,
Thanks for responding. Yeah Ive been using songbird since about January i think. First crash I have ever had and yes it has happened only after I downloaded songbird 1.2
I’m hopeful
-
Inappropriate?I myself have no problem running 1.2.0 on XP.
In your case guess it wouldn't hurt to try and download a nightly, even though i suspect it is a little too soon to hope for it to work.
The second thing you could try would be to nuke your current Songbird profile completely, alternatively create a second one. This will only have a chance of success if you used the same profile over the previous versions of Songbird though.
Whatever your decision, I'm here to help you out.
I’m confident

Inappropriate?Hi Naegling, like Lenney, I think that you might want to try to create a new Songbird Profile with the Profile Manager.
-
Yeah, I recon that might be the problem, no idea why though? -
Inappropriate?Hm, and somehow I have the totally arbitrary feeling, it might have something to do with the known L3CODECA.ACM problems...
It's pure instinct, but it can't hurt to try this, too:
1. Quit Songbird.
2. Open the Start menu and select "Run..."
3. Type "REGSVR32 L3CODECA.ACM" (no quotes) and hit enter.
4. Launch Songbird.
(But still I think a new profile is the best chance) -
Inappropriate?hey guys thanx a lot for the info - i tried atreiu's suggestion about the whole start menu run thing - and it seems to have worked! love your work atreiu. That said, I'm still having web browser issues - a guy called andrew put up a bug page for it on this link:
http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show...
do you reckon nuking my profile might fix this lenny? If so Ill give it a shot
I’m excited
-
I'd recommend to create a new profile and see if that helps. -
Inappropriate?umm this mite seem silly but is this what u type in cmd window?
"cd C:\Program Files\Songbird\songbird -ProfileManager &" -
Inappropriate?I spoke too soon... its crashing again. Yeah Lenny I think Ill take your advice and go ahead and create a new profile - on that note could you instruct me on how to use profile manager?
-
Inappropriate?hey lenny. doh' i cant download it because of the web browsing problem - do i just download it in a normal web browser? then what?
cheers
nae -
yes, then drag and drop the .xpi file onto songbird -
Inappropriate? After you've installed the songbird dev tools, go to [tools] in the Songbird menu and select [enable profile manager].
Then restart Songbird and you should be prompted to create additional profiles once it loads again. -
Inappropriate?hi lenny,
Ive tried all possible ways of dragging and dropping lol.
i exited songbird, drageed the .xpi file onto the songbird icon - this opened up songbird automatically but it didnt have any option there to enable profile manager -
did you try to just drop it in the playlist? -
Inappropriate?drop it in the playlist? what do u mean?
-
Inappropriate?nvm i figured it out thanx
-
Inappropriate?Have you had a chance to try it out? If you have, how did it go?
-
Inappropriate?hey lenny
Just tried it out - thanks a lot for your help mate. For whatever reason, a new profile seems to have fixed both crashes and web browsing issues - ill make it a point to post this up on the bug page as well.
The only down point of course is installing all add-ons etc again but that a small price to pay for the genius that is songbird :)
Cheers dude
I’m thankful

I'm just happy I could help. Enjoy your bird! :-D
