Songbird adds ID3 v1.1 tag with Genre "Blues" to all my MP3 files
Hi,
my MP3 files have usually only ID3 v2.3 tags (written by MP3 Book Helper v2.3.4). I prefer to leave the Genre tag empty and there is no ID3 v1.x tag.
When I play the songs in Songbird (1.1.1 build 1018) I found that the Genre of the files is always changed to "Blues". Looking at the files in MP3 Book Helper shows that the v2.3 tags are unchanged but Songbird added a v1.1 tag with this unwanted information.
Please note that I experienced this problem so far only with my MP3 files, the OGG Vorbis are not changed.
Anybody else having the same problem or do you need any additional information?
Thanks,
Jakob

Inappropriate? In the meantime I updated to 1.1.2 (build 1042) and tried several things to come around this issue:
1) I added ID3 v1.1 tags (with empty genre) to MP3 files before I added them to Songbird.
2) changed songbird.metadata.enableWriting to false
3) changed songbird.metadata.promptOnWrite to true
Behavior is still the same. I wonder if above parameters in about:config have any effect at all...

Inappropriate?Short update:
I think I found an explanation why it uses "Blues" as default genre: It is simply the first genre in ID3 v1.1 (index "00"). Still in my opinion it should stay empty because Songbird should use the v2.3 tags (which allows an empty genre field).
I played around and found now that songbird.metadata.enableWriting = false works. As I don't use the genre, the most important was that my files are not changed. This is fine now.
I’m unconcerned
