Songbird and WMP just clocks....MP3's will not play!
My Windows media player stopped playing music for some unknown reason, I read on Microsoft that it is unfixable, so I downloaded the highly recommended songbird and it does not play either. On either program I can load the program and the library comes up and then when I choose a song it just clocks...... both programs react the same way.....any ideas on what is wrong with my machine??

Inappropriate?Hmmmm....well I went into Windows defender user settings, and I just started shutting off stuff. Then I turned off a whole lot of start up stuff and currently running stuff....Basically if I didnt recognize it, i shut it off. Now songbird is working great! I dont know what I did....if any one has any ideas please still reply.!
I’m happy!

Inappropriate? It is hard to say, but it sounds like some of the running processes was holding the sound device, so you couldn't get a sound with any media player.
That's kind of interesting because usually there is no problem to share a sound card between several processes in Windows.
That would be good, if you could nail it down (to do that you should shut the processes one by one and try to play music after each one).
Or your sound device driver was not working properly.
To see that you should open Control Panel->System->Device Manager and check under Sound, Video and Game Controllers.
Without knowing what exactly was running on your machine, it's hard to define. -
Inappropriate?OK. 2 things I discovered. Flash drive and DivX. I unistalled DivX and removed the flash drive (bad habit of leaving it in) and I can get songbird and WMP to atleast open up. WMP still will not play music, just sends a highlighted blue bar up and down the library continuously and remains locked up. Songbird seems to play an MP3 just fine. But thats it. Just one. I created a playlist. I click on the list, I click play. The little "sound" icon moves to the bottom of the list then it plays the top song and thats it. Is there a way to make it play a whole list automatically more like WMP?
I’m frustrated, wouldnt you be?
