Songbird browser/security question/suggestion
I'm unable to use Songbird due to the security risk with it having a built in browser. I wanted to know if there was an option or way to disable the browser so that I might be allowed to start using Songbird. If there is a version that comes without the browser, that would be even better. If these options do not exist at this time could I look forward to it in the near future? If anything, I would think having an option to disable the browser would be a great idea.

Inappropriate?G'day,
You can't disable the browser because the entire internal platform uses JS and such in many areas.
However, that being said, hacking doesn't really work the way you think ;)
In reality, I doubt there would be any more security risk with an inbuilt browser then one without (because hackers probably wouldn't even touch the browser components if there was an exploit).

Inappropriate? There was a similar question some days ago, I just copy & paste my answer from there:
"Any browsers security-holes don't affect your computers security, if you don't visit websites. So if you don't use the songbirds browser and no add-ons that use it, you are as save as if the browser would be disabled.
Besides this, Songbird uses the latest Firefox-Code (3.0.10), which is considered to be very save, even if you are visiting bad websites. So it's not more dangerous to surf with Songbird, than to surf with Firefox (one of the most secure browsers).
But if you don't believe me, or you want to be 200% secure, just block Songbirds internet-connection via your Operating Systems Firewall." -
There have been some exploits with broswers that just having one installed *cough believe it was IE cough* let someone exploit your machine even if you did not use it, just as long as it was installed -
Inappropriate?Hi Brandon, just in case you were interested in more on this topic, here's another thread you might want to look at: http://getsatisfaction.com/songbird/t...
