Songbird deleted my iPod's music
The other day I listened to my iPod using Songbird for about 4 hours and after I quit the program and unplugged the iPod from the computer, it had erased around 4,000 songs from it.
I have a 20GB iPod Photo, an Acer Aspire 4520 laptop with Windows Vista SP1, and I'm running Songbird 1.0.0, Build 860

Inappropriate?That shouldn't happen.
You should always use the "safely remove hardware" feature of windows, when you disconnect a usb device. Have you done that? -
Inappropriate?Hi. Thanks for your reply.
Sure, I always do it.
Do you think it has something to do with Vista's feature of checking and fixing problems in USB devices? I'm not sure, but I think it happened that one time I chose to check instead of ignoring right after I connected my iPod. -
Inappropriate? We could start taking wild guesses, as to where this came from, but wont find an Answer I fear.
It could be anything. Songbird, Windows, your IPods connection, you name it.
I hope it doesn't happen again. But be sure to come back, if it does. Then we'll start hunting it down! -
Inappropriate? All was well with Songbird 1.0 and my iPod classic on Unbuntu Intrepid. I just updated songbird to 1.1.1. After about an hour of playing music, I closed songbird, then ejected the ipod via the desktop icon as I always do (right click -> eject). Now most of the music is gone. Scrolling through, there are about 20 artists left, but each only has one song.
If the rest of the music (20GB worth) was deleted, it was done in an instant, because there was no delay or lag when ejecting. I unplugged only after "now ok to disconnect" was on the ipod screen.
And I was just bragging about linux... :\ -
Inappropriate?Hi, i also updated Songbird to 1.1.1, also updated all the plugins (including iPod support). Listen to music on my iPod Classic 80GB Black. Ejected cleanly, no delay or syncing icon, and 3000 tracks deleted (about 3/4 of iPod content), all normal playlists, and all smart playlists except one.
Tracks were added with Songbird and iTunes under Windows XP SP3. Tried to find orphan tracks with Floola (latest version) but none were found.
Tried the same with an iPod 5G 80GB black, with Songbird 1.1.1 under Ubuntu 8.04. Same result.
Is there a debug log or a sync log that we can provide for further analysis? -
Inappropriate? We hear you. More info here:

Inappropriate?Thanks Dustin :)
Submitted my crash logs, hope it helps identifying and hunting that nasty bug.

Inappropriate? Its worth noting that Songbird has officially recalled that extension now. People should be getting a message which says its been found to be dodgy, and will be automatically uninstalled now. At least I did..

Inappropriate? The add-on works fine with data sync'd through Songbird. Anything that was added with iTunes is what is getting deleted. It didn't delete anything I have added through Songbird.

Inappropriate? That didn't happen to me. I'm new to songbird, so every single song that I've added to my iPod has been done with iTunes. Only some of them were deleted and some not.
I also had the theory that it had to do with MP3s vs. CD ripping (with iTunes also); but again, some of the remaining songs were MP3 I downloaded and some were ripped directly from CDs.
Conclusion: so far, it's all random.

Inappropriate? What now, people? The addon is well and back. Do the problems persist, or are they gone?
-
The deletion problem is fixed. However, my iPod has been mounting for over 4 hours now, which never took that long. It's a 120gig iPod, Windows XP SP2, no iTunes installed. -
Maybe Factory resetting your IPod would do any good in that respect...
It's a pain, but sometimes starting from scratch is everything there is to it to solve such issues. -
Inappropriate?Problem solved, works like a champ!
