songbird doesn't load in ubuntu 8.10
I'm running (or attempting to run) songbird 1.0 on the aforementioned linux distro, and the first time it started just fine. I install some plugins and restart songbird, but it won't restart...
Or rather...it will restart, but it will hang without appearing, as i get TWO songbird processes and one songbird-bin process in my system manager. what do I need to do?
Yes, I did uninstall songbird COMPLETELY. Twice, in fact.
EDIT: 2:28 Eastern:
Third time's the charm.... I got it to start again, but I do NOT know how NOR do I know what I did wrong in the first place. Please consider this question still open

Inappropriate?It happens on Linux sometimes.
Either you attempted to start Songbird twice or you exited while some process was running.
Normally you should only see two instances in a system manager:
songbird
songbird-bin
If there are more than that you will get the message that Songbird is already running.
You need to kill the process:
pkill songbird
Then, try to launch Songbird again. -
Inappropriate?I recently installed Songbird on Kubuntu 8.10
The process of installing run ok. However, when i try to open Songbird, it appears on the taskbar then disappear. When i open it again, it gives me a message says
"Songbird is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Songbird process, or restart your system."
I tried to run it again then it appeared on the taskbar and disappeared again....
I tried many times and the same thing happened everytime i tried. -
Inappropriate?G'day,
Just wondering if you used the official tar.gz, or packages from elsewhere (such as getdeb). Someone on IRC reckoned the getdeb package had certain issues for them (minor ones) -
Inappropriate?I tried both packages (tar.gz and getdeb). Both of them have problem and so this problem does not come from the package, it's the issue with the system. I tried to remove libvisual-0.4-plugins
sudo apt-get purge libvisual-0.4-plugins
And songbird runs okay. I reinstalled libvisual-0.4-plugins and it's still running. So I think the issue is solved, you just have to remove libvisual-0.4-plugins

You just used one of the workarounds.
The problem is with some non-free nVidia beta drivers.
Look at this bug report:

isn't it the bug for 64bits? cuz i'm using 32bits. Do they have the same problem?
