Windows peeps: before installing anything to resolve this problem, do the following and let us know if it works:
1. Quit Songbird.
2. Open the Start menu and select "Run..."
3. Type "REGSVR32 L3CODECA.ACM" (no quotes) and hit enter.
4. Launch Songbird.
You should get a window that says "DllRegisterServer in l3codeca.acm succeeded" after step #3.
I'm wondering if the file is already on your systems but just isn't properly registered with the OS. This will register the decoder if it's present and will do nothing if it isn't present.

So here's the deal with the "Internal Data Flow" error: it's GStreamer's default error for "something went wrong." As you guys report problems and figure out how to fix them, we can catch the problems you're running into and at least provide better error messages.
Those of you having this problem on Windows who managed to fix it by installing a Windows Media-related thing: you were missing a system file called l3codeca.acm. We don't know why that file went away in the first place. Have you tried to uninstall Windows Media Player, maybe?
We're going to add a better error message to handle this one case. Thanks to all of you for the good, persistent sleuthing.

Inappropriate?@ astor songbird plays the majority of my library too but i realised that it doesnt like certain types of ID3 tag. when it skips those tracks it gives the same error....luckily if you edit the tag with an ID3 tag editor such as MP3 Tag it seems to fix it

Inappropriate?I got these in the Error Console so I tried disable/restart and uninstall/restart but it made no difference

Inappropriate?I finally found a way to install l3codeca.acm on a vista computer if the other way didn't work. Follow the instructions from the link below, but instead of changing the codec to l3codecp.acm, change it to l3codeca.acm. This should fix the songbird problem.

Inappropriate?Having this problem on all my files. Using 1.2.0 under Ubuntu 9.04 . Might be interesting : Some other programs like Tuxguitar can't play sound at all, and sound in firefox is very bad.
I’m desperate

Inappropriate?I'm using Slackware-Current, just grabbed Songbird 1.2.0. I tried everything I can think of and I am getting this error also. Seems this has been going on for over a year now? Wow, quite a bug you got in the system. It appears the Windoze people were helped out. Whats the word for us Micro$haft haters? Is there a fix somewhere? Anyone get it to work?
I tried the Gstreamer deal, didn't work for me. Even grabbed the nightly build to see if possibly by some miracle that would work, nope. So......... am I forced to use Amarok? Really hate that program, takes forever and a year to load.
A little help would be great, you guys have had a long time to come up with either a solution or a darn good excuse. At this point, I'll take either. (At least a great excuse will provide me with some humor to combat my frustration). -
Agreed. Songbird being what it is, it seems like there would be some effort to get a problem fixed, especially a problem that happens to be completely crippling to the purpose of the software. There's really no excuse for this to be going on so long. -
Inappropriate?SOLVED: (Fedora 11)
Download and install the RPM Fusion repository and install VLC, this installs all the libs for media playback.
If it is still not working, play one file of each type of song you have in your library in "Movie Player" this will prompt you to install the codec. Once all codecs are installed Songbird plays with no problems.
I’m happy, confident

Inappropriate?Any clues on Slackware? Wow this is just one huge bug that the Songbird team apparently wants to ignore. The top right of this page says, "Songbird employees are here to help." Really? Where exactly? This problem has been around for how long? And the linux crowd has been basically ignored by Songbird. Hmmm, really seems a waste of time to program a song player that phales to play a song. How about this idea. Stop working on whatever 'candy' you are programing now, and FIX this major bug, error, bad programming, so we can actually begin to USE the software. Then once you have it working, you can return to your tweaks and addons.
Furthermore, a simple response from the Songbird team DIRECTED TOWARDS THE LINUX CROWD, would greatly be appreciated. -
Have you made sure the gst-plugins (good, bad and ugly) are all installed? -
Inappropriate?I'm having the same problem. Windows Vista Home Premium, SP1, 64-Bit. SongBird 1.2.0 build 1146.
I tried Ali Rayl's suggestion and (like others here) got this back:
"The module "L3CODECA.ACM" was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found.
Make sure that "L3CODECA.ACM" is a valid DLL or OCX file and then try again."
I do indeed have l3codeca.acm in both C:\Windows\System32 and C:\Windows\SysWOW64 so the file is not missing. Interestingly, I am able to successfully execute Ali's instructions for the professional version of the codec (3codecp.acm), although that doesn't seem to affect this issue.
I went through the instructions at http://www.vistax64.com/vista-music-pictures-video/95854-help-missing-codec-thing-making-me-crazy.html#post477591 and verified that l3codeca.acm is associated.
I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling SongBird and running SongBird in safe mode too with no luck.
Any suggestions?
I’m frustrated
