Windows peeps: before installing anything to resolve this problem, do the following and let us know if it works:
1. Quit Songbird.
2. Open the Start menu and select "Run..."
3. Type "REGSVR32 L3CODECA.ACM" (no quotes) and hit enter.
4. Launch Songbird.
You should get a window that says "DllRegisterServer in l3codeca.acm succeeded" after step #3.
I'm wondering if the file is already on your systems but just isn't properly registered with the OS. This will register the decoder if it's present and will do nothing if it isn't present.

So here's the deal with the "Internal Data Flow" error: it's GStreamer's default error for "something went wrong." As you guys report problems and figure out how to fix them, we can catch the problems you're running into and at least provide better error messages.
Those of you having this problem on Windows who managed to fix it by installing a Windows Media-related thing: you were missing a system file called l3codeca.acm. We don't know why that file went away in the first place. Have you tried to uninstall Windows Media Player, maybe?
We're going to add a better error message to handle this one case. Thanks to all of you for the good, persistent sleuthing.

Inappropriate?the thing is..........i had the same problem, in my case it was that the songs i played were not in my media library, when i had imported them, then there were no more problems.
Still....amarok seems more mature to me, but songbird has its perks. -
Inappropriate?ok.....seems that there was something else.....importing files fixed things for a while, but then the error was back again......i think it is the last.fm plugin....i have diasbled scrobbling and now things are better again. (not good still, because last.fm plugin is probably broken)

Inappropriate?i have the exact same problem with random files.
XP SP2, latest version of songbird to date.
anyone know another MTP supporting media player that isn't WMP? -
Inappropriate?I too have this problem.
With all my files.
XP sp3 pro N
I don't have WMP installed.
I’m jinxed
-
Inappropriate?I solved the problem by deleting the Songbird directory in my profile, I restarted the application and now it works well (It wasn't a problem with modules because I have installed all same modules and works now ... I don't know what exactly was the problem)
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?Songbird directory in your profile? Explain...
-
Inappropriate?under Window$ XP : c:\Documents and Settings\yourprofile\application data\Songbird2 (the directory "application data" is hidden by defalut)
under Linux : /home/yourprofile/.songbird (hidden directory I think)
All your parameters/skins/modules are stocked there, but if you delete this directory, and you restart songbird, all needed files will be re-created with defaults parameters, it worked for me -
Inappropriate?I am very disappointed, as playing music is in my opinion a necessary feature for a player.... :- /
I would be very sad to be obliged to uninstall it as I love the project in itself... please solve this!!!
-
Inappropriate? In my case the problem was related with the extension "ACM MP3 Decoder plugin". I deleted it in my profile and I solved it :-)
Had to try to eliminate all the extensions one by one to find out! But now it's perfect.
-
Inappropriate?and how do you do that exactly?
-
Inappropriate? It's interesting that those of you on Windows are able to solve the problem by disabling the ACM Decoder. It's supposed to be helpful! :( For those of you who are having problems and want to disable this add-on, do the following:
1. Open the Tools menu and choose Add-ons.
2. Locate the ACM MP3 Decoder plugin and click its Disable button.
3. Restart Songbird.
Note that this is Windows-only. We'll have to address the Linux problems separately.
Who still has this problem? Raise your hand and let me know whether you're on Windows, Linux, or Mac. You can also email me directly at ali (at) songbirdnest (dot) com. -
Inappropriate?Still a problem for me too on Opensuse 11.1. The problem only started happening after upgrading to 11.1. On 11.0 Songbird 1.0 was working fine.
Currently using Amarok 2.0 instead but would be good to get Songbird back.
Cheers -
Inappropriate?I haven't seen an internal data flow error for a long time (using the latest nightlies)
-
Inappropriate?I have the same problem still in windows after the plugin is disabled. I think it is related to having song imported from itunes because the ones that aren't seem to work?
I’m annoyed
-
Inappropriate?I disabled de ACM plugin and I still have this problem. I already tried re-importing all my library. I can't get a guess of what it is, because it happens with any random song. I also thought of the Last.FM plugin, but I disabled that one too and the problem didn't disappear, I hope this has a solution soon because I really liked my Songbird
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I'm still trying to figure this out... I was keeping an eye on the Error Console while I was getting this annoying error, and amongst other "non lethal" errors (or I at least I think so...) I got this error:
Error: SQLite compile step:
SELECT count(*) FROM playing_at JOIN artists on artistid=artists.ROWID JOIN concerts on concertid=concerts.id WHERE artists.name = 'Seiji Yokoyama'AND concerts.timestamp > 1232237202
caused the error
no such table: playing_at
As it seems, it's probably a database error proper of the Songbirde source code, I'm not good to figure all of it out... Maybe it helps as a hint to somebody... Everytime I get an internal flow error this message appears always in the Error Console
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I found a solution but I have to note that my problem may be different than yours. My songs wouldn't play but if I would say show file it would pop open the song and show it, therefore I knew the file path was correct and everything. After I deleted my profile and reinstalled everything I found out that not only were the songs not playing but I was getting an error code (which I didn't know because at some point I had disabled it before).
Anyhow the solution I came up with was disabling the ac3 code then I installed the quicktime and media player addons... if I just looked at my addons it said that the quick time addon was already installed.. but I went directly to the website and installed any addon related to playing fairplay/quick time files and windows files... and it has worked perfectly ever since (so far).

Inappropriate?I solved the problem this way: mi system is opensuse 11.1 and kde 4.2 rc1. Last week, when i upgraded some packages including gstreamer libraries to the last factory version, i didn't upgrade gstreamer-plugins-ugly because package manager told me that it was necessary to downgrade some other related libraries to do that, so i skipped the ugly ones. Then I remember and I decided to upgrade them telling the package manager to downgrade automatically 3 other packages related, and voila, mp3 playing worked flawlessly. Hope this help you
Check this link about gstreamer libraries needed by songbird:

Inappropriate?I didn't do exactly as falzueta says, but after being a long time removing, upgrading and installing new gstreamer plugins i get it working. I suspect the problem in my case was generated by gstreamer-schrodinger plugin, but i'm not sure. This plugin is now removed on my system. I'm using opensuse 11.1 x64 with standard kde wich comes with it (i don't know its version)

Inappropriate?Having also the problem with the above mentioned error message. I'm using opensuse 11.1 (64Bit). Are there any fixes so far?
I’m sad
-
It worked in my case (I also have a 64bit version) Have you installed the gstreamer-plugins-ugly package? -
Yes, the ugly package was installed. But deinstallation doesn't help. Same errormessage as before. So it doesn't seem to depend on this package -
Inappropriate?I've decided to wait until I try this again on my openSuse 11.1 KDE4.2 install. Amarok is doing pretty well now.
-
Inappropriate?I found a very bad solution (to me) although it worked: removing the pulseaudio package. Advantage: I got songbird working. Drawback? KDE started to complain about everything, couldn't handle the plasma board and so on. I'm sure I removed wrongly any dependencies, but the consequence was to reinstall SeSe (11.1, KDE 4.1.3)
I’m confused

Inappropriate?I still reading "The company is working on this problem." First post was made 3 month ago... Any chance to get a fix soon? Otherwise songbird isn ́t an alternative for me.

Inappropriate?is someone really working on this??
i've read about the problem and some people says they fix it deleting the profile i already tried this and trouble still.
they also talk about the acm decoder plugin, but does't fix anything i had the previous version of songbird with this plugin working, and when i updated to the newest ( which doesnt come with this plugin )i can't play anything

Inappropriate? The only times I've had this issue in Ubuntu 8.10, there has been a problem with an mp3 file. I converted all of my music (lots of aac, some wav) to mp3 back when Songbird wouldn't play aac on Linux. I guess some of them didn't get converted right.
I haven't had this problem in 1.1 at all.
-
Inappropriate?I too got this error when trying to play mp3 files. I'm running Windows 7 and after the removal of Windows Media Player, the error occurred. Installing Windows Media Player again, and now the error is gone and I can play music again.
-
Inappropriate?I've had this problem since upgrading to v1.1. Numerous reinstalls haven't helped.
All my music is on an external hard disk, and I get a "watch folder error" on reinstallation.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?it looks like i get this error only when i have already played a song before or after the selected track. gapless playback?!
-
Inappropriate?I get this on the first track
-
Inappropriate? Is this any closer to being fixed?
-
Inappropriate? At the moment it seems to be fixed (songbird 1.1.1-0.pm.5-x86_64). I can play streams as well as "normal" mp3 files without the above mentioned error message.
But there ́s a new error when starting songbird: http://www.picbutler.de/bild/40288/so...
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?same problem encountered, media core error happens for EVERY single music track (mp3) or any streaming music service i play (last.fm , shoutcast)
Running Windows 7 7057.
-
Inappropriate?uninstalled songbird with revo uninstaller, cleaned registry, deleted application data manually. installed songbird again. repeated process for 3 times. didnt helped. im using the latest version of songbird. on windows XP. the acm decoder mentioned up there, cant work for the latest version, so i doubt thats the cause. hope this will be fixed asap. cause songbird is a great application.
forgot to describe exact issue. i select the music to play and it gives me that error. so i check the box for hiding of error notification(something like that, i'm not so sure), then songbird just keeps skipping songs. however some certain songs could be played. but the majority of my music library cant be played.

Please vote for this bug here:

I have the same problem (on XP, too), and I'm under the impression, that it doesn't get enough attention. This is a real deal breaker, making songbird nearly unusable, and a lot people are suffering. BTW: I hadn't this issue in 1.0, but since the first 1.1.0betas. And the error is still there in the latest nightly builds :((( Maybe I downgrade, if this isn't fixed soon. -
yes exactly, same here. i did not have this trouble with songbird when i was using version 1.0 -
Inappropriate?Have the same problem. Running XP, too. Every second song is skipped.
This makes Songbird unusable for me, I'm forced to use another player now :-(
Please fix it!
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I've been having this same problem for several days now. I use Vista 32-bit. This only seems to happen when I'm trying to play an MP3 file. I've been told this is an issue with the ACM decoder that is builtin to Windows. In theory, this should be fixed by using an alternate codec other than that builtin to Windows. However, to my knowledge, Songbird is not too happy with doing that. I'm extremely frustrated with this. I love Songbird, it's the best media player out there. But if it can't play an MP3, then I'm afraid you will have one less user.
To be completely honest, I think a problem like this should have been fixed the minute it was found instead of what seems like being ignored. This is a make it or break it deal. Many users are having this problem. Please fix it.
I’m terribly frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I always have this problem, 1.1.2 doesn't fix anything...
It's very frustrated, 1 track / 4 play, all others are skipped :(
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?I had this problem until I used a program that fixed my MP3 files.

Inappropriate?@robsug:
Your software maybe fix problem for you ; now i don't think it's the only problem 'cause with Songbird 1.0, i don't have any bug like it. -
Inappropriate?@Laurent
Well my music files didn't seem to be invalid as they played in WMP however this program did help. Before commenting why don't you try the program? Even just on one track that doesn't play?
I’m Happy
-
Inappropriate?@robsug:
'Cause for the moment, i'm not on my media center, i'm coding :)
And the second reason is that i've + 25000 mp3s so even if your soft is so magic, i think, it'll take 24h to fix all the mp3 who skip in Songbird ;)
But, sure, you right, when i'll have the time for it, i'll try it with some mp3 to check it !
-
Inappropriate?@Laurent
Seems like a fair deal!
And yes the program would take a while to do all them tracks! But hell run it on a night, you never know, stranger things have happened...
I’m Happy
-
Inappropriate?@robsug: Hm, I was desperate enough to try your software.
I tested it with 3 albums. It found no error (everything was "OK"). I "repaired all" anyway and I think the software was doing something.
But it doesn't change a thing.
Maybe you had a slightly different error, or the cause of the error is different.
PS: I don't think it's something wrong with my mp3s. They worked well on Songbird 1.0, and they are still working well on all other media player. And _every_ mp3 is effected. And Songbird _can_ play all these files, but it only plays them sometimes.
I think, it might be a incompatibility with Windows default decoder or something, because only some Windows-machine are hit by this issue.
I’m still desperate
-
Inappropriate?@atreiu
That's unlucky. Oh well people let's keep on trying to find solutions. Obviously this error is caused by numerous sources and won't be simple to solve as everybody's system is different.
I’m Happy
-
Inappropriate?@atreiu:
i think the same thing, it must have anywhere a fucking codec in conflict with GStreamer... I've tried to remove all shity softwares like Quicktime, Realplayer & co, nothing change !
-
Yeah, I also tried to change the decoder settings of Windows, but no luck. But to be true, I'm not that experienced with codec-stuff, so I just disabled random things in windows codec-settings. If someone can tell me how to install and activate an alternative mp3/acm-decoder, i would appreciate that and try it.
(I really think Songbird-crew should fix this in the first place, because they broke it somewhere in the first Songbird 1.1.1betas. I didn't change my codecs or something. But as I'm very desperate and songbird-crew doesn't seem to put a lot of attention on this problem, I would be very happy about any dirty workaround, no matter what I have to do :-) -
Inappropriate?I got the same problems, running on windows server 2008 - disabled all codecs, removed library and added again, install latest nightly - no dice :(
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?kasper, please don't forget to add your details to the corresponding bug-report:
http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show...
The more details they have, the better they can fix it, and so far no windows server 2008 user reported there.
On the bugzilla, you can also vote for this bug, usually the bugs with more votes get more attention. Thanks! -
Inappropriate?i got this problem.
only wma and ogg are being played. it happens suddenly. Updating to 1.1.2 version didn't solve the problem. I am on XP3 and very sad.
I can't ifugre why theses bugs still not have been fixed.
I’m frustrated, oh so frustated
-
Inappropriate?I got it to work on WinXP SP3
my error was "Internal data flow error" on any mp3 file or stream.
I needed a codec called "Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec"
and by installing "Windows Media tools 4.1" I was able to get it.
(there are probably other ways to install it also)
so I guess the problem is that the songbird installer doesnt come with the required codecs.
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?omg, Hayato, I think you really found the solution.
Here you can download the Windows Media Tools to fix this problem.
(MS doesn't offer an offical download anymore)
I just installed these really old Media Tools (for Win 98 :o), and it seems to fix the problem. I don't even had to install the codec or something else.
My guess is, that Songbird is incompatible with some newer media-dlls, but that it works well with the old ones (that Media Tools do install).
So far, everything is working fine. -
Inappropriate?doesnt work for vista 32bit
-
That might be true, I'm on XP SP3, like Hayato. I doubt that the tool is replacing the media dlls on vista... -

Ali Rayl, for me, it was definitely songbird 1.1.0b1 who broke it. I had a excellent working songbird 1.0, installed the first new beta, and it broke right at that moment. I didn't change _anything_ in this time on Windows or WMP. -
Eeeenteresting. We were using the DirectShow decoder in 1.0, and we switched over to the ACM decoder in 1.1. You had the DS decoder but not the ACM decoder, which is bizarre... I'm starting to wonder if it's just somehow not registered. Will post another thing to this thread. -
Inappropriate?Windows peeps: before installing anything to resolve this problem, do the following and let us know if it works:

Inappropriate?Well, I couldn't use Songbird for a time, I kept getting all those errors and no music played. A while ago O checked Windows /Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices. Guess what? The Fraunhoffer codec was disabled (don't know why). I enabled it and everything is going well so far...
1 person says
this solves the problem
-
Inappropriate?Well, the solution proposed by Ali Rayl didn't work for me : no library found.
But i download the fraunhoffer codec and it works... quesiton : why it disappeared suddendly?
I’m happy but perplex
-
Inappropriate?Glad this worked for you also. In my case, though, the codec was correctly installed -- it simply was disabled (and I have no idea why) in the control panel applet. I simply enabled it again. No installation needed. Anyway, everything was working well before the last songbird update, so it has something to do with it. Go figure...
I'm just frustrated because of all the time I wasted trying many other solutions proposed, and uninstalling and reinstalling songbird, etc. Wish I thought of looking at the codecs applet earlier!
-
Inappropriate?Well, problems continue. Songbird plays now the great majority of my mp3... but can not play some MP3 which do not have any particularity, nor in the name, nor in the folder where they are, nor in the encoder used for them... I do not understand. Hope songbird will provide a high quality mp3 support ! Songbird can play an entire album except one track, destife of the whole album had been encoded from the same cd...
I’m sad.
-
Inappropriate?hey i tried what Ali Rayl sad and didnt work....no library found...
but Matos your solution work here
thanks now i'm enjoying again
people you should try with the Fraunhofer codec
I’m thankful
-
Inappropriate?@ astor songbird plays the majority of my library too but i realised that it doesnt like certain types of ID3 tag. when it skips those tracks it gives the same error....luckily if you edit the tag with an ID3 tag editor such as MP3 Tag it seems to fix it
-
Inappropriate?I got these in the Error Console so I tried disable/restart and uninstall/restart but it made no difference

Inappropriate?I finally found a way to install l3codeca.acm on a vista computer if the other way didn't work. Follow the instructions from the link below, but instead of changing the codec to l3codecp.acm, change it to l3codeca.acm. This should fix the songbird problem.

Inappropriate?Having this problem on all my files. Using 1.2.0 under Ubuntu 9.04 . Might be interesting : Some other programs like Tuxguitar can't play sound at all, and sound in firefox is very bad.
I’m desperate

Inappropriate?I'm using Slackware-Current, just grabbed Songbird 1.2.0. I tried everything I can think of and I am getting this error also. Seems this has been going on for over a year now? Wow, quite a bug you got in the system. It appears the Windoze people were helped out. Whats the word for us Micro$haft haters? Is there a fix somewhere? Anyone get it to work?
I tried the Gstreamer deal, didn't work for me. Even grabbed the nightly build to see if possibly by some miracle that would work, nope. So......... am I forced to use Amarok? Really hate that program, takes forever and a year to load.
A little help would be great, you guys have had a long time to come up with either a solution or a darn good excuse. At this point, I'll take either. (At least a great excuse will provide me with some humor to combat my frustration). -
Agreed. Songbird being what it is, it seems like there would be some effort to get a problem fixed, especially a problem that happens to be completely crippling to the purpose of the software. There's really no excuse for this to be going on so long. -
Inappropriate?SOLVED: (Fedora 11)
Download and install the RPM Fusion repository and install VLC, this installs all the libs for media playback.
If it is still not working, play one file of each type of song you have in your library in "Movie Player" this will prompt you to install the codec. Once all codecs are installed Songbird plays with no problems.
I’m happy, confident
-
Inappropriate?Any clues on Slackware? Wow this is just one huge bug that the Songbird team apparently wants to ignore. The top right of this page says, "Songbird employees are here to help." Really? Where exactly? This problem has been around for how long? And the linux crowd has been basically ignored by Songbird. Hmmm, really seems a waste of time to program a song player that phales to play a song. How about this idea. Stop working on whatever 'candy' you are programing now, and FIX this major bug, error, bad programming, so we can actually begin to USE the software. Then once you have it working, you can return to your tweaks and addons.
Furthermore, a simple response from the Songbird team DIRECTED TOWARDS THE LINUX CROWD, would greatly be appreciated. -
Have you made sure the gst-plugins (good, bad and ugly) are all installed? -
Inappropriate?I'm having the same problem. Windows Vista Home Premium, SP1, 64-Bit. SongBird 1.2.0 build 1146.
I tried Ali Rayl's suggestion and (like others here) got this back:
"The module "L3CODECA.ACM" was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found.
Make sure that "L3CODECA.ACM" is a valid DLL or OCX file and then try again."
I do indeed have l3codeca.acm in both C:\Windows\System32 and C:\Windows\SysWOW64 so the file is not missing. Interestingly, I am able to successfully execute Ali's instructions for the professional version of the codec (3codecp.acm), although that doesn't seem to affect this issue.
I went through the instructions at http://www.vistax64.com/vista-music-pictures-video/95854-help-missing-codec-thing-making-me-crazy.html#post477591 and verified that l3codeca.acm is associated.
I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling SongBird and running SongBird in safe mode too with no luck.
Any suggestions?
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?I didn't found where the codecs are in Windows 7, but i installed the Fraunhofer codec, and now it's working perfect.

Inappropriate?Ok, so here's my solution. I have Opensuse 11.2. If you are using external storage media with your library in Songbird, open Dolphin and check that the external storage appears. If the external storage does not appear, this message will continue to appear. Ensure that all external media is connected and is detected/mounted in Linux. When it is connected, then your media should work fine in Songbird. This has not been a consistent problem for me after this troubleshooting. Even if an external hard drive is connected and shows that it is receiving power does not necessarily mean that the drive is mounted or detected.

Inappropriate?Basically what I am trying to say is that sometimes external drives "fall asleep" and need to be "awakened" in some OS's. This is certainly the case in most Linux distros.
