Songbird removes embedded album art
I have every mp3 in my music collection embedded with album art, but after adding the files to Songbird and adding lyrics (using LyricMaster) the embedded album art seems to have been removed from the files. Has anyone else experienced this and is there a solution?
Also, I embedded the art with mp3tag (or sometimes using MediaMonkey)

Inappropriate? Can you run a test for me, make sure you have some mp3s with images set as FrontCover or Other. Start up songbird and make sure that the following pref is set to false: songbird.metadata.artwork.enableWriting you can access this by going to about:config in the url bar or File->Open Location. Then import the media files. After import shutdown songbird and check those same files for artwork. So the same steps but this time with the pref set to true. If the second time the images are missing but the first time they are not then we have a problem somewhere that is clearing the artwork when it shouldn't. Also make sure to check with the latest nightly (and indicate the version you first saw this on).
Thank you.
I’m undecided
-
Inappropriate?OK, I did the test (with the latest nightly) and it appears that when songbird.metadata.artwork.enableWriting is set true and I edit any metadata the embedded art is removed,
if songbird.metadata.artwork.enableWriting is set false, then the embedded art remains. I tested on Version: Songbird 1.1.1a, Build 948 (20090129012448), and I first saw it on Songbird 1.0.0
I’m still confused
-
Inappropriate?hopefully, once you enable the feature fully,
songbird will ask me before changing my files.
It should never assume a user wants it to automatically normalize, change tags
.....
I had a lot of work to put the art i wanted there into the tags. -
Inappropriate?I just installed the new Songbird release (Songbird 1.1.1, Build 1018) and this problem still exists, even if I set songbird.metadata.artwork.enableWriting to false the embedded art is still erased.
I’m sad

Same here cemicolin, I really like Songbird but to me this is a critical bag that needs squashed ASAP -
Inappropriate?Just ran into this post when searching for a solution for precisely the same problem.
I would like to keep the artwork embedded in the music file, but I can understand that some people would preffer to simply link to some image file.
I think there should be a setting in Songbird for this so that the users can choose the option they preffer.
Any news on this topic? Can we expect a fix soon? -
Inappropriate?Whatever setting or option is presented in current or future versions of Songbird, or any other software: any information, especially albumart, from an mp3id tag should NEVER be removed. I have noticed the same problem using Songbird v1.2. I'm very disappointed. No mater what people prefer, NEVER should anything be deleted without the users permission. Again: I'm very very disappointed.

Inappropriate?I also use embedded album art but so far did not encounter the problem. Could it be, that it depends on the version of the ID3-Tag? I mostly use ID3v2.3.
I’m frightened
-
Now I tested it with songbird.metadata.artwork.enableWriting = false.
Nothing special noticed, album art is still there. Maybe the lyrics addon interferes in some way -
Inappropriate?I use ID3v2.3 as well. I edited the album name of some entries in Songbird. Afterwards the Albumart for these entries was removed from the mp3, allthough the albumart itself is still visible in Songbird. Weird? I repeated the action for some files to be sure. I have 'Write Album Artwork to metadata' enabled, because I want to be able to manage my mp3 files with 1 program, preferably Songbird. For now I use software named The Godfather to repair the damage Songbird does.
-
Really weird. Maybe that's why I did not recognize the problem until now. This is serious and should be solved asap!
For editing MP3-Tags I can only recommend MP3Tag: http://www.mp3tag.de/en/index.html
It's my number 1 in mass MP3Tag editing. You can also automize standard procedure e.g. removing all "_" and "-" in tags and file names and so on. -
Inappropriate?Yes I've set songbird.metadata.artwork.enableWriting = false for now to make sure Songbird does not delete any Albumart. But I was hoping to use Songbird for adding AlbumArt to my mp3 files so that the Albumart would show in my phone and mediaplayer. I'll use other software for adding Albumart.

Inappropriate? What happens if you change the parameter "extensions.lyricmaster.dispAlbum" to "false"? I mean, it says display only, but perhaps it works as Doug said he used LyricMaster to edit Lyrics.
-
Inappropriate?I cannot find that parameter. I do not use the LyricMaster plugin...
-
Ok, so that plugin is not the reason for the malfunction.. -
Inappropriate?I'm not sure that this is the problem, but Songbird only saves tags as ID3v2.4, which isn't supported by all software or devices (e.g. Windows explorer, WMP). Try using Mp3tag to see if the album art is actually still present. It can also be used to convert tags back to ID3v2.3 if that is what you need.

this solves the problem
-
Inappropriate? Thanks Mike, after reading your comment I did some more testing with ID3v2.4 and ID3v2.3 and I've come the the conclusion that Songbird is not the cause of my problem! My bad. The albumart disappeared in other software/hardware I am using because they do not read all ID3v2.4 tags correctly so it seems. I've converted 4 mp3 tags from v2.3 to v2.4 and added albumart using Songbird. In all 4 mp3s the albumart is visible in both Songbird and Mp3tag. Mp3tag now reports 2 images while Songbird only shows the recently added albumart. My other favorite mp3manager, The Godfather, reports that in 2 of the 4 mp3s the albumart is missing, which appears to be untrue. So Songbird is not deleting anything, just converting! I'm very very releaved!
I’m thankful
