Songbird skips quickly through all my tracks without playing any
Hi,
I've installed the latest version of Songbird (for the first time). I've imported my library from Itunes but when I try to play any tracks, it just continuosly skips through them. It will skip quickly through hundreds of tracks before eventually playing one way way down the list. Always the same one as well.
I'm on windows XP on PC Athlon XP. Echo Audiofire4 soundcard. The files are a mixture of mp3's and wavs, but like I say, it skips pretty much everything. I have no problems on any other media player.
Please help!!

Inappropriate?I don't use iTunes import, but try the following:
Import one or more songs directly in songbird (via drag'n'drop) and try to play those files. If that worked, check back the file name shown in songbird. Maybe something went wrong while importing? -
Inappropriate?skipping through in that manner means Songbird isnt able to locate the files at the given path... Are you using an external hard disk?
-
Inappropriate?Hi, thanks for the replies
rsjtdrjgfuzkfg, I tried dragging and dropping tunes, I even tried deleting the entire library, then importing my music through songbird rather than from itunes, didnt work.
Clamm, yes I am using an external hard disk. Doe songbird not work with these? The external drive works fine with all other music apps. -
Inappropriate?Normally it should.. i am also using an external drive (and lots of others too)... but in some occasions there have been some issues... Could you try the folowing. Copy a file to the desktop -> Drag it onto songbird -> Try to play it
... (Just to assure that everything works from that point of view)... Paste here a full path to your file as shown in the mediaplayer (You can find that for each song in the medialibrary under "File Location") and paste the path here???
And also if you are using some kind of data encryption like Truecrypt... please note that also ;-) THX... -
Inappropriate?Hi Clamm,
I've tried playing tracks from the desktop but they won't work either. I've actually realised that Songbird wont play mp3's. It plays wav, flac and others but not mp3's, regardless of the drive it is on and regardless of the bitrate of the mp3. -
Inappropriate?Maybe some codecs are missing?
Did you tried playing the songs with another media-player (wmp, vlc) ? -
Inappropriate?yes, as mentioned before, my entire library works perfectly with all other apps.
-
Inappropriate? Can you please post one of the files on a freehoster? Would like to check if it works here.. THX
-
Inappropriate?you want me to upload an mp3 somewhere for you to play to check the mp3's arent faulty?
Mate, I have a library of 1000's of mp3s, at various bit rates both cbr and vbr. Over the years I have used Itunes, winamp, media player and god knows what else. Every single one has played without issue on any other player every single time. Songbird wont play any of the mp3's, we're not talkin one or two rogue files, we talking the whole lot, refuses to play any of them. I can tell you without any shadow of a doubt that the mp3's themselves are fine and uploading one somewhere will be a waste of mine and your time. -
Inappropriate?;-) Yep, you are right... so please check the error console (after intenting to play a file) and post the entries here...
-
Inappropriate? In the error console, the message below keeps coming up, with the number 1677 (in this instance) increasing by one for each track not played
Error: GStreamer error: Internal data flow error. Additional information: gstbasesrc.c(2240): gst_base_src_loop (): /player/uridecodebin1677/source:

Inappropriate?hi greg, i had the same exact problem with songbird skipping through every song like it couldn't find the files, so i started checking the simplest changes i had made with my computer before i had noticed songbird messing up and after retracing my steps i realized i had changed the name of my Music file in which all my music is stored, and as soon as i changed the name back to what it was before, all my songs started playing again! so maybe you may have accidentally done something similar? its usually the simplest stuff that ends up screwing up a whole computer lol. so i hope this helps in some way. retrace what you've done with your music files and such and you may find your answer right under your nose

Inappropriate?Sorry, sorry... this thread got totally out of my focus... Is it working now??
-
Inappropriate?Hi Clamm, no problem still not sorted yet. Does the error log mean anything to you?
Juli, thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately the issue isn't caused by me renaming any directories or anything similar. This isnt an issue that has started to happen one day. Songbird has never worked for me and has had this problem since I installed it. Even if I delete the entire library and then add the tracks again from scratch, it still doesn't play.
Remember as well that it only seems to be mp3's it wont play. Wavs play fine. Unlucky for me as about 95% of my library is mp3 -
Inappropriate?Ok... Please try if ALi's proposal solves your problem:
http://getsatisfaction.com/songbird/t...
IF not please compare the following bug report with your problem if its the same:
http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show...
THX -
Inappropriate?I have had the exact same problem since yesterday, before that all was perfect.
Clamm, the first solution does nothing for me.
My problem does seem to be same as the bug report though, so good to know i'm not alone with this...
I’m unsure
-
Inappropriate?I've tried ali's suggestion, didnt make a difference.
Yes, looking at that bug report, it does appear the same (or very similar) to my problem. -
Inappropriate?I have almost the same problem.
Generally, When I click to a song, the second song is playing.
I don't have this problem with .flac
Just mp3 I think -
Inappropriate?Ok guys... we dont think that we are all talking here all about the same problem... So all which reported here after greg please check if there isnt yet another thread on getSatisfaction or bugreport on bugzilla already... If not please open a new thread if things differ from what greg said...
YOU REALLY SCARED ME ;-)
GREG: Back to you... Could you please answer the following questions:
- Did you import he files via the iTunes importer?
- If "YES" could you try dragging and dropping a file onto songbird and see if it works
- Could you try a nightly build http://wiki.songbirdnest.com/Develope...
- VERY IMPORTANT: Could you try the regsvr32 command (found on the proposed bugzilla thread) and report if it succeeded or failed... This is extremly important
- there are some people in the bugzilla-thread reporting that installing the frauenhofer codec pack helped... Could you please also try that...
Sorry GREG.... we think that there could be 2 things causing that issues. First one is a corrupted Songbird installation under windows which causes the mp3-codec to be missing... The second one could be the iTunes importer
Thank you for your patience... -
GREG: I know you already tried regsvr32 BUT the answer shown in the console is very important!!!
