Songbird Vista Aero style feathers with transparency
Is it possible to create a Vista Aero style feather for Songbird? I think it'd be rather nice if you could have a Songbird Vista feather which blended the majority of the dark area using Aero's blending technology, with adjustable opacity. Has anyone created such a thing? At the moment Songbird is sexy, but it could be more so with shadows and alpha-blending.

Ooh, I didn't know a topic like this existed. I made a few mockups in this topic showing what Songbird could look like all glassy.

Inappropriate?Okay, I've tried the two suggestions from GeekShadow. Flyerfox won't work on Songbird 0.61. The second one, NativeBird, looks like a standard application window now with an iTunes type feel. Not quite what I was meaning, but a step in the right direction. I've attached a screenshot of how it looks on my machine.

Now, using my rudimentary Photoshop skills, I've created a rough mockup of how I see the final look turning out, using the colour scheme specified by Vista, rather than one tied directly to the feather. Let me know your thoughts on that.

Inappropriate?Hey guys! I decided to breathe some life into this topic again... While talking with my friend on the the features he would like to see in Songbird... One of the main points he brought was OS integration with Windows Aero... With Glasser for Firefox and Google Chrome being inspirations...

moz-border doesn't really do the trick...
When this topic was disscussed last time, about v0.6/0.7 transperacy through the bg wasn't a problem, and I doubt It would be so now.
Building a feather as massive as this takes a lot of hard work, I't would be nice to try it on togeather with someone else.
I'm not as into xul as atreiu is, I think... So buttons and layout stuff would be on his ( or anyone elses ) table if there'll be some kind of co-op.
Anyone interested getting this project on, just shout at me here and I'll respond! :-)

Inappropriate?I don't know what is and what is not possible... (it's totally up to you guys since you know what works best) but I was thinking of an addon-ish type of approach... Setting areas to be transparent.... Then feather makers could could pick a color or alpha blend for the transparency areas.... (Just as JohnM made his Media Flow background changeable so atreiu could choose a white background for the NABS feather)
Then all the feather makers could incorporate their own specific transparency (through color choice) into any feathers they want :)

Inappropriate?Are you guys still working on this? I've been thinking that with Windows 7 coming out, an Aero Bird 2 should be made to fit with the new lighter Aero feel that Windows 7 has. I'd be glad to help with working out transparency. I suppose i also have a little knowledge with XUL because of the focus add-on.

first mock is better. I think that it would be great if this was made and set as default for win7/Vista. This is the look that the next Firefox is going for right?

The first mockup is the original one that I made, and the second mockup was an evolution of ideas that led to removing the text from the title bar. I think the first design would be a more practical because it is now most programs are still designed, but I have come to like the second design a lot as well since the title bar text - the currently playing song's information - is already displayed in the control panel.
In either case, I think that Songbird should try to have a more-native appearance to separate itself from iTunes. These mockups were based on mockups of future versions of Firefox, and I think Songbird would benefit from an interface redesign as well. -

Hopefully it will get some official support and there will be a real Aero feather one day.
