Songbird with Android Support?
Is anyone working on G1/Android support with Songbird by way of a plug-in or something? I would like to help develop it if needed. Thinking something similar to the iPod plugin that has been developed, but support for Android!

Inappropriate?I definately want to see this too.
Later this year Nvidia is planning to release high performance mobile chipsets which are designed for android. This means better then Omnia HD Android phones potentially by the end of the year which can easily support HD everything. Furthermore, because Nvidia will officially support Android (but not Apple, who needs to do all the work themselves), I think there is a very good chance Android will become a dominant mobile platform by the end of the year. Nvidia completely changed the way computers evolved, and I believe they will do the same with mobiles
Especially as Android is much more open, its free, you can purchase completely unlocked phones with root access (so you can choose the firmware you want and always have an up-to-date phone OS), and finally, basic functionality which is missing on the iphone like true background applications exists and is totally usable on Android.
And for developers, the advantages of Android are epic. iPhone's require a mac to develop phone software on, Android can use anything. Furthermore, not only monopolises the iPhone application market, but they have screwed numerous developers whilst doing so.
So this should certainly be a priority.
I’m confident I will be throwing away my K750i and ipod shuffle this year

Inappropriate?I believe that Android phones work as a standard mass storage devices. So there should be no need for a special Android plugin.

Inappropriate?G'day,
Just an update. According to the roadmap it appears awesome device support will be added in Jackson 5 (due august).
The next release (after isan) will allow:
- Easy firmware updates of devices
- MSC support again
- Transcoding (so we can hopefully automatically reencode incompatible formats for the devices).
- The major device support extensions will be open sourced, so they can be used to assist development of extensions of other devices too.. W00t.
So next release will be a doozy, and hopefully will go a long way towards improving all external device support

Inappropriate? As it stands now (9-1-2009), Songbird does NOT recognize the G1 Android phone. Media Player 12 in Win7 does. I'd rather use Songbird believe me!

I’m happy that Android phones will do to the iPhone what the PC has done to the Mac.

There is a workaround if you'd rather use Songbird - you have to use playlists, however, so I don't know if this will work with the type of usage that you prefer.
This is the tutorial for the workaround (via Lateral 8):

And here's a discussion on the Android Community site that gives a little more supplemental info:

Inappropriate?Thank you!
Funny thing: As you were typing the link to the FolderSync page I was reading it!
I have it and the mass storage plug in, but it just wouldn't 'see' my G1 like it does a Walkman, meaning it isn't listed on the left pane.
It seems to be loading my playlists now...
Now if only I can get Songbird to load music on my Sony digital walkman instead of just the playlists and folders.
