Inappropriate?Hm. Are there many?
If there are only a few, why don't you just delete them in your IPod?
Or you could wipe your IPod completely clean and then re-sync it. Maybe that helps.
Sorry... Have no IPod to test. -
Inappropriate?there are more than five copies of some songs.
is there a way to delete them on my ipod? i have an old mini by the way.
i'll try that and see if it works. -
Inappropriate?I have this same issue on an 80GB Ipod with over 14,000 songs, not counting the duplicates, so deleting the many extras is no a practical option. The duplicates are all songs which appear in playlists, if that helps at all.
-
Inappropriate?Do you have songbird set to sync everything? If so, try to change that to one playlist and not everything. If you synced your ipod with another application, before you did with songbird, it will sync every song on songbirds list, no matter, if its already on the ipod or not.
That, too could cause the problem you have. -
Inappropriate? As a fitness instructor, I use playlists for workout routines. In fact, that's my primary reason for having an Ipod at all. So having a single massive playlist is not a solutions for me. And since this problem with duplicates prohibits me from fitting 64GB of music onto an 80GB ipod, I'll have to find a solution elsewhere, it would seem.
Syncing does not just duplicate songs, it adds songs from the playlists on every sync, so some songs have six and seven copies (and growing). I tried to delete the entire library from the Ipod and reset it to factory defaults, but that appeared to hang everything, and songs were not deleted.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?I don't own an Ipod myself, but couldn't you connect your ipod to your pc, open it there and delete all songs?
Factory resetting should also work. At 80 gigs it might take a while though. -
Inappropriate? So from what i get from this thread is that if you have a song in lets say, 5 playlists, the song would duplicate itself on the ipod 5 times? if thats the case, i really dont know if i can stay with songbird too much longer. Thats a major flaw since many people use playlists. myself i have 7 playlists, and may have duplicated songs across all of them. also ive used playlists to parcel an ipod selection of my library for the ipod, since my ipod has 20 gigs and my library is somewhere around 27 gigs (although i wouldn't know since Songbird wont tell em info like that, the way itunes does).

Test it out! -
I will when i can get my playlists to sync correctly in the first place. -
If you describe it more thorough, maybe I can help. Even when I don't own an IPod myself... -
Inappropriate?I did a bit more investigating, and here are my results:
1. I wiped my Ipod Classic 80GB by restoring it to factory settings.
2. I re-synced it with my music collection. Everything went fine. No duplicates that I noticed. At least I could now fit my 60-odd GB of music on an 80GB Ipod, which I couldn't before
3. I added more music to my library, so
4. I synced it again.
5. Immediately there are three copies of every song that is on a playlist.
So, the only solution seems to be to wipe the Ipod every time before syncing. Not really a solution at all. I did not sync this Ipod or transfer any files to it using any other software, so the issue is entirely within Songbird.
I would think that syncing with an Ipod is a fairly common practice. I also think playlists are fairly common as well. So, to me, this is a rather fundamental issue. If I can be told that someone is working on this (someone who has an Ipod to check it out) then I'll stick around for the result. Otherwise I'm going to have to move on.
As it is, it takes at least ten minutes to mount my Ipod in Songbird and another ten or fifteen to sync it (because it insists on re-copying all the songs within the playlists). If I have to wipe it every time, then syncing will approach a one-hour ordeal. Not pretty.
I’m tired of this.

Inappropriate? We are definitely working on better support for audio devices all the time.
Just look at all the bug reports on IPod issues.
We are well aware of many and working hard to redeem as many as possible, as quickly as possible.
We definitely will get better all the time from release to release.
All I'm asking here is for you to be patient.
Have a look into bugzilla and see, if you can find your special bug. If not, file one!!
The more reports get in, the sooner things will get fixed. That's the beauty of open source development.
I'm sorry, that we caused you trouble. We'll get to it.
