Stuttering/skipping while playing music
I keep my music collection on a shared drive on my LAN. When playing music over the network, Songbird always 'stutters'. I tried playing the same music/files with iTunes and a few other players, but the problem didn't arise. It only happens with Songbird.
I'm on a Mac ( OS X 10.5), my network has Macs, Windows and Linux PCs. I'm using Songbird 1.0. No additional plugins installed (except the ones out of the box).
I'm dying to ditch iTunes in favor of something open and better. Songbird seems like the answer. Please help me get there.

Inappropriate?I experience the same problem when using VLC, but not in Quicktime or iTunes.
I’m disappointed

Inappropriate?I'm using the latest nightly build now. It doesn't skip as often. But, still does stutter/skip.

Inappropriate?I just downloaded the latest version of songbird to replace itunes as my default player. It stutters/skips badly when playing songs from my portable drive... it doesn't happen when i play the same songs on itunes!
I’m dissappointed

Inappropriate?mine still skips too, using version 1.1.1. i've got my audio output buffer to 5000ms and my network buffer size to 512kbs and it's still rather bad. given that all my music is on a 250gb NAS, this is quite the problem. i'm on ubuntu linux, 8.10, with some tweaks for my asus eee netbook. i'd be happy to produce some debugging-type information, if you'll tell me what kind you need.
I’m super sad

Hi meredeth,
Any info you can provide would be best served by adding it to the bug open for this issue: http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show...
Thanks so much for your help! -
Inappropriate?I have had the same skipping problem with every new version of several distros and I can tell you it is not a NAS, computer system or anything else other than an issue with Linux itself. I'm getting the same skipping issues whether I'm playing back from my computer or Last.FM. It's a Linux issue outright and no one has yet to come up with a workable solution.
I mean this is multimedia dude. And this is supposed to be a threat to Windows????????????????
