Inappropriate?I personally wouldn't want to be forced to use another patented music format. So, I'd rather only see this implemented via extension for now, if at all. If we get people excited about it, it will take over again, and it will prevent innovation.
Ogg and Flac have a good chance of success, and I'd like to see Songbird propel them forward. There is no good reason for manufacturers to pay licensing fees to a company, for media formats.
So I'd like to see us only add support if people adopt it, otherwise, I'd rather let it die. There are many media players (like the sansa ones) out there which already support OGG/FLAC, so its a good chance to break out of this patent loop. Do you really think that Thomson deserves $1 for every player made because of a format they developed 2 decades ago?
I'd rather see this one die. Only implement it if we HAVE to.
