Support online services like Youtube, Dailymotion, MyVideo etc
What about adding a Pluginsystem which allows to play songs directly from streaming services like YouTube, Dailymotion etc
There will be no need to Download the Song or something like this. A Song has a URI which describes where the song is located. If a user wants to play it, it will be streamed.
There are a lot of advantages using this system:
- Less disc usage (you just need to save the URI along with some tags instead of the whole music- file)
- Easy sharing (you do not need to copy a huge file)
- Portable (You can play your library wherever you got internet- access)
These are just a few advantages such a system would bring with it... Would be nice to get something like this integrated in a next release of songbird...

Inappropriate?What exactly do you mean?
The song is displayed in your library, but wont get downloaded?
Example:
A song on youtube is shown in your library and when you play it, it behaves like a normal mp3 and will play the sound, but not the video?
Is that, what you're saying? -
Inappropriate?Yes, thats what i mean.
The file is displayed in the library with the usual tags like album, genre etc
But its path points to
"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3cLKC6tfGg"
instead of
"C:\Music\finame.mp3"
There are ways to get the uri to the .flv- file from a YoutubeLink. SongBird could extract the Music- Data from the .flv- File and play it.
There could be Plugin- Support to manage other services like Dailymotion or GoogleVideo.
(They all got .flv- files and the Plugin just needs a method to extract the flv- link from a given Uri) -
Inappropriate?I kinda like the idea, you got there. The implementation surely will be much work, but we'll see, what other users have to say about this feature in here.
If the Idea is well received, we'll see, what we can do ;-)

this is one of the best points

Inappropriate? We do handle streaming of some content. For instance I listen to SomaFM.org.
Might be easiest to just use the video window have it display a Flash player and hand it the URI than trying to dig into the stream contents itself.
