Syncing with the Palm Pre - small bug - is a fix in sight?
Songbird currently sort-of sync's with the Palm Pre - but it ends up not working. In others words, the Sync happens, but the Pre doesn't see any of the music for some reason. Not sure what the issue is, but it seems like it would be a simple fix as all the hard work is happening and some flag somewhere is not getting set.
This would be a huge opportunity for Songbird - as with the death of iTunes Pre syncing has sent everyone out looking for new solutions. Whoever hops on it first with a good (and free) solution could become the defacto standard - at least for Mac users who don't want to sign up to be DVD Jon's towel boy under the doubletwist EULA.

Inappropriate?I agree - this is an opportunity that iTunes is handing us, if we can seize it. Amarok already appears to have done so - open source could score a big win here.

Inappropriate? We're working on MSC support for Windows now and hopefully MSC for Mac is hot on its heels: http://wiki.songbirdnest.com/Releases...
In the meantime, have you tried FolderSync?

Inappropriate?Mac version 1.2, Songbird iPod Add-On. It says it sync'd the music, but my devices doesn't seem the files. My device is a Palm Pre, which sync'd fine with iTunes before I accidentally upgraded iTunes.

Music appears to sync but not recognized by device.

Inappropriate?I have posted this on a couple of Palm related forums, and sent it into the Palm ideas link, but I thought I'd address it from here as well.
I think it would be really nice to have more integrated functionality for the Palm Pre. Palm has gotten snubbed by iTunes, and fixed the problem once, showing that there is about to be a stupid (and painful to consumers) cat and mouse game to be played by the two.
As a solution, I think Palm should embrace Songbird, and probably the other way around as well.
This would be a great solution for Pre users, and probably boost visibility of Songbird while putting a stop to the back-and-forth between Apple and Palm. -
We totally agree, and so do some other folks: http://www.osnews.com/story/21893/Edi... -
Inappropriate?I was successful getting the music to transfer to my Pre using media sync on the Pre and it showed up in Songbird and i synced a playlist. It transferred all of the music over just fine and it showed up in the music player on the Pre. the only problem was that none of the album art showed up on the Pre. All of my album art is embedded in the file and if i manually browse the folders on the device, i can see the album art thumbnail in windows.
I used the FolderSync add on, exported the playlist to a directory and manually copied the files over in USB mode and everything copied over and showed up in the music app. Using this method, the album art shows up just fine.
Now all i am missing is the ability to sync the playcounts back to songbird from the device, any ideas?

Inappropriate? Is there something special I have to do to get Songbird to sync with the Palm Pre? When I plug it in and set it to "Media Sync" mode, it immediately gets recognized by Songbird as an iPod.
I know it's successfully transferring music, because when I view the Pre as a USB device, I see the iPod_Control folder with all the music in it. However, the Pre doesn't show any of the music in its player.

Inappropriate? When I try to sync on a Mac with my Palm Pre with the iPod support add on nothing happens at all. Device doesn't even show up so I have zero synching capability. I even tried a nightly build, still nothing. Any word on sync support?

Inappropriate?Hi Patrick,
Maybe I'm missing something here but the iPod add-on is only able to sync iPods. You can grab FolderSync and give that a shot.
-
Laura, the Palm Pre, when put into "Media Sync" mode, acts just like an iPod over usb. In theory, Pre users should be able to use the iPod add to sync their music.
The question is: is the iPod add-on under active development any more and, if so, could they please include support for the Pre? -
Actually, Laura, with the "magic" (read: former Apple employees finagling the code) of the Palm Pre, it looks like an iPod to iTunes and to Songbird.
On iTunes, when you sync music to your Pre it syncs the album art and playlists as well. For some reason, that doesn't happen with the Pre.
As you can from an above poster, FolderSync can be used to achieve this for the most part... but its sort of convoluted. What I think we would like is a "Pre Sync" or maybe just a way to fix the iPod sync so that it properly transfers the images over to be displayed on the device.
Honestly, I think there's a lot of opportunity here and I wish you guys would seize it. Has anyone at Mozilla tried to open a dialogue with Palm? -
Inappropriate?@ Alice, Short answer to your question is unfortunately no. More info here: http://blog.songbirdnest.com/2009/08/...
@ Neil, We're not actually associated with Mozilla, we're POTI. They do their thing, we do ours. We do however agree it could potentially be a good fit and hopefully they'll think so too. Our Biz Dev guys are definitely on it.

Inappropriate?hello, when i transfer my music to my palm pre using songbird the album art work is a no show, any ideas ? by the way the art work is seperate from the mp3 files and saved as jpg
-
What version of Songbird are you using(1.2 or 1.3) and what add-on are you using to sync to the pre (MTP or MSC).
If you are using a 1.3 build with the MSC add-on it should work.
(And when 1.4 comes out, the MTP add-on should sync Album Art too.) -
Inappropriate?i am using 1.2 and i got the ipod add on to sync my music on the pre
-
The iPod add-on doesn't support artwork sycing.
If you are on Windows, you can try out a 1.3 build with the MSC add-on to see if it works. (You might have to enable USB mode on the Pre if it doesn't do it automatically)
Otherwise you can wait for 1.3/1.4 to come out and give it a try then.
