Taskbird
I posted this as a comment in a thread yesterday, but I thought it would be good to have an idea thread posted as well so people could comment on it.
Mozilla is working on incorporating Ubiquity into Firefox, and I think it is just about the coolest thing ever. You can read the labs post, and see it in action or try it here: http://labs.mozilla.com/2009/04/taskf...
I assume that once something like this is added into Firefox, it wouldn't be too difficult to add incorporate it into Songbird, and I think this is something that could really add a lot of capabilities to Songbird.
With Taskbird, you could use the awesome bar to communicate with the program and have it perform tasks that would normally take a couple of steps to manually complete. It would make the awesomebar so useful that you could use it while you are in the library, not just when in the browser. The existing features of the Ubiquity Songbird addon could be incorporated, and people could make a bunch of additional ones. Searching for lyrics, tabs, retrieving album art or song information, recommending songs to friends if a friends system is incorporated into Songbird, last.fm commands like love track, and any other music related commands. For example, you could type "lyrics", and it would show you the lyrics of the song you are listening to in the results box, and like in the Taskfox preview, you could drag the results box out to make it more permanent and read the lyrics while the song is playing. Maybe it could even be used to give you search results for music in your library; if you type in song, artist, or album names, it could give you results and selecting them would play that song, album, artist, genre, whatever. This might be faster than using the existing filter-like search method in Songbird.
I think this might also be a great way to incorporate adding tags to songs. You could type "tag" and then type out a few terms and it could add them as tags to the selected songs.

Inappropriate?Dude! I have been following Ubiquity for a while and I agree, it is just about the coolest thing ever. To someday integrate it with Songbird would be incredible :)
I’m pumped

Inappropriate?Aza, who works on some of the labs projects, also made a blog post about the mouse iteration of Taskfox here: http://www.azarask.in/blog/post/taskf...
This will make it easier to perform tasks on text you have highlighted in the browser, but I could similarly see it working in Songbird. It could make it so that you could select a song with the mouse, bring up a contextual menu, and quickly perform tasks such as finding lyrics, tabs, or artwork, suggesting the song to friends, posting about the song on twitter. The best part about it is that it would perform these tasks inside of the preview box, so you would not need to open up a new tab to, say, find a song's lyrics or the best image of album artwork for it.

Inappropriate?I filed this to Bugzilla as well because I think it will be extremely useful to Songbird after it is integrated into Firefox.

Inappropriate?I haven't posted in here in a while since Taskfox still hasn't been incorporated into the Firefox core, but I thought I would post an update for anyone who is still interested in the idea. The project is still being developed for Firefox, and you can even test it included in a beta version of Firefox here. It is definitely coming along. You can also see how the URL bar is getting glorified in Google Chrome in this blog post. I just like keeping up on how open-source projects are developing.
Most interesting, probably, have been the developments in this thread:

There has been good discussion and many mockups posted about improving the functionality of the awesome bar. Simon has even been working on an add-on so that having a more-unified navigation bar in Songbird may one day be possible.
