Treeview view of music library, grouped by artist?
What I really miss from old-school musicmatch is the ability to view my mp3 library grouped by artist, in a treeview, where clicking on the + next to an artist would open up all the mp3s by that artist. Scrolling through all of the songs I have by one artist is annoying.

Inappropriate?hi sherrifffruitfly (type that 3 times fast, hehe!),
Have you tried any of these artist view add-ons to see if they improve your experience? http://addons.songbirdnest.com/search...
I’m hopeful

Inappropriate?Hi there!
I was also a MusicMatch user and I really miss the treeview option either.
That's why I started this topic:

I really really think it would be an awesome option for SB too.
Please give it a look. If people start talking about this, perhaps one day someone will develop and add-on.
@ Laura: can't you get us some community love?
Thanks!
I’m patiently waiting for this to become real

Inappropriate?Hey guys,
I can certainly try! I'll work this into an upcoming birdbath as what you really need is an add-on developer to take an interest.

Hi Laura,
Just wanted to thank you for the weekly birdbath!
Thanks a lot! -
You bet, I really appreciate any/all suggestions. I'm really just a glorified traffic cop trying to make sure all the right people and ideas connect. ;-) -
Inappropriate? It would be cool if moshy added the ability to collapse/expand artists in his Album List extension. Although, just using nested trees wouldn't be all that difficult.
I’m excited

Inappropriate?I like the idea of a tree-view media view; it would be compact, which would make the interface less cluttered and maybe even less memory-intensive. I think it should have a shortcut for expanding a tree very quickly, such as right arrow to expand and left arrow to collapse. That way, you could easily navigate your library using the keyboard; type-to-find an artist, expand the artist and album you want easily using the navigation arrows, and select the song you want.

Hi Murphy!
I suppose a lot of ideas are already jumping inside your head.
If that's the case, please let them get out. After all, it's not everyday this idea gets to have a Champ's attention.
In the meantime, if you haven't done it yet, please take a look at this other topic:
http://gsfn.us/t/p4e
There's an image there which, I think, helps selling this idea.
Thanks! -
Inappropriate? What I do that is similar to musicmatch (i guess) is use the Customize Filter Pane add-on (might be taken over be stevo - hopefully) to rearrange the library view to look like this:
(artist filter on the left side)
I find it more helpful than the filter pane (cause i don't use genre), and less to scroll through from the List view... it's sort of a happy medium between the two...

Ok - I've got the add on installed - how do I go about making my view look like your pic? (bit of a noob here) -
Nevermind - got it. -
Select the 'Filter Pane' as the Media View. Go to Customize Filter Pane options in the add-ons. Set it up so its just Artist and Left side. Then Hit "Ctrl+R" to refresh the library view. -
woop. you beat me by a minute :-P -
Inappropriate? Thanks for the thoughts and such everybody!
Michael - that does indeed look to be a decent workaround to the treeview format I suggested. Thanks!
I’m satisfied enough ftm.
