Unable to play FairPlay (M4P) files, even with the QuickTime Playback Songbird extension installed and QuickTime running.
Running Songbird 1.0.0, Build 860 and QuickTime 7.5.5. Have installed the QuickTime Playback Songbird Extension and am running QuickTime in the taskbar. I am running Songbird on Windows Vista.
When I attempt to play a FairPlay file using Songbird, the program loads for a couple of seconds, then the GUI starts acting as if the media file is playing (it shows the song title and artist in the player and the time bar moves), however no sound is played.
This problem is only related to M4P files. All other media formats play with no problems.

Inappropriate?Same problem here - started a few days ago. Really a drag.
I’m sad, frustrated, back to itunes.
-
Inappropriate?Do you have Quicktime installed? Try it.
I don't like it, but it sometimes has to be done...

Yes, specifically QuickTime 7.5.5. I've tried using Songbird with the taskbar icon both on and off, both to no avail. -
Sorry, I just cross read your post and hadn't seen, that you already said that...
Please excuse me.
Could you try to re-install quicktime and the addon? Sometimes things get messed up... -
Meh, it's okay. I'm just thankful someone's finally responding to this.
I just tried uninstalling and reinstalling the plugin... no luck, sadly. =( -
Have you tried to uninstall quicktime and then back in, too? That helped some people. -
Inappropriate?...I don't know all the ins and outs...but...I bought a couple tunes from itunes...they played fine...even on my realplayer...but I was clearing some of the programs off my computer...it was running slow...and I deleted itunes...since I have rhapsody...AFTER THAT .m4p would not play...showed as playing but no sound...ANYWAY I FIGURED MAYBE IT HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH CODE IN ITUNES...figuring with competition apple wants you to buy from itunes...bottom line: I downloaded and reinstalled itunes with quicktime player (i still had my orig. qt player)...anyway when itunes came up...IT HAD RETRIEVED MY .m4p in the library I guess...didn't have to find and put them in...AND THEY PLAYED...so evidently the codex (if that's what they call it) is in the "itunes" software and not in the "qt player."
anyway it works, AND IT PLAYS IN REALPLAYER...TOO!
