Unable to stream ogg in Linux
In Songbird 0.5.1 for Linux, I'm unable to stream ogg files from the web. The player looks like it's trying repeatedly to connect, but never gets as far as playing. (I say that because I use the FireTray add-on for Songbird, and it pops up a notification bubble each time it tries to connect.) In fact, Songbird keeps reconnecting even after I try to stop it; I need to play another song in order to convince it to give up. (I admire such persistence and dedication!)
The pages I've tested link to an ogg stream through a .m3u playlist, and I attempt to play it by clicking on the hotlink to the playlist. If I enter the URL for the ogg stream directly in the location bar, I'm prompted to download the ogg. If I create a web page with a direct link to the ogg stream from the playlist, I get the same behaviour when I click the link as I did clicking the link to the playlist.
Sample streams:
OS: CentOS 5.1 on an AMD Athlon (kernel: 2.6.18-92.1.1.el5.centos.plusxen)
Version: Songbird/0.5.1 (20080618005650) (2008022917)
Why 0.5.1 and not 0.6.1: 0.6.1 won't run for me
Thanks for your time and attention! Songbird rocks.

- ormgas streaming remixes (direct link to m3u) (This site seems ripe for songbird goodness!)

Inappropriate? When I open the error console and then click on the M3U link, I get a few repeats of this error:
Error: observer.onDataChanged is not a function
Source File: chrome://songbird/content/bindings/observesDataRemote.xml
Line: 204
Followed by one instance of this:
Error: [Exception... "'JavaScript component does not have a method named: "onBeforeTrackChange"' when calling method: [sbIPlaylistPlaybackListener::onBeforeTrackChange]" nsresult: "0x80570030 (NS_ERROR_XPC_JSOBJECT_HAS_NO_FUNCTION_NAMED)" location: "JS frame :: file:///home/davidp/Songbird0.5/components/sbPlaylistPlayback.js :: anonymous :: line 967" data: no]
Source File: file:///home/davidp/Songbird0.5/components/sbPlaylistPlayback.js
Line: 970
No more messages appear after that (as Songbird tries to connect to each item in the playlist repeatedly).
I get the same messages when I double-click a song or stream in my library, so it's probably unrelated, but I thought I'd mention it anyway, just in case.
I’m not really helping, am I?

Inappropriate?Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do to change things for 0.5.1 version.
I've tried 0.7pre Nightly build on Ubuntu 7.10 64 bit.
I don't have CentOS 5.1 on any machine.
The second sample worked for me when I open form URL and download some of the files.
Do you still have a problem to run any newer Songbird versions? -
Inappropriate? We also have bug filed for Media Core problem on CentOS 5

Inappropriate?I can't run a newer Songbird on my CentOS machine (at work) until someone (either Songbird Team or a contributor) rebuilds Songbird for those of us who need to balance our desire for neat programs with a need for OS stability and support.
But at home, where I set my own software policy, I'm running Ubuntu Hardy Heron (8.04 LTS) 32-bit, so I can do some more tests.
Songbird/0.6.1 (20080623082739) (2008052304): I have the same problem as in my original post, for both streams I linked.
Songbird/0.7pre (20080724012801) (2008072116): ditto. Each time it tries to play a .ogg stream from the m3u link, this set of messages appears in the xterm window from which I launched Songbird:
TagLib: Ogg::PageHeader::read() -- error reading page header
TagLib: Ogg::File::packet() -- Could not find the requested packet.
TagLib: Vorbis::File::read() - Could not find the Vorbis comment header.
That happens once for the CBC stream (which has one entry in its m3u), twice for the ormgas stream (which has two).
So the problem isn't CentOS-specific, nor is it only in Songbird 0.5.1. I'm the only common factor so far, so it would seem as if I'm cursed.
I’m cursed

Inappropriate?I stealthily built Songbird/0.6 (20080813103218) (2008081309) on my CentOS workstation (don't tell my boss!) from a SRPM, and I have the same problem there.
The Check for Updates menuitem is disabled in this build, so I can't easily test Songbird 0.6.1, at least not yet.
I’m without ogg streaming

Inappropriate?Despite the silence here, it seems like you folks have been working on this. Songbird 1.0 (which works fine on my evil old CentOS 5) can play CBC Radio's ogg stream with no problems. Thanks for fixing that!
I’m pleased
