Inappropriate?I also have this problem. I'm able to update my addons, but Songbird does not find any update to 1.1.2. I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 and installed Songbird via www.getsongbird.com.
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate? This probably means you installed Songbird in a place where you do not have the right permissions set (no write access). Try changing the permissions on the directory you installed Songbird in, or running it as root.
(it is best to extract the tarball to your home directory when installing Songbird to avoid those occurrences)
-
The permissions are o.k. I updated also from 0.7 to 0.8 to 1.1 without any problems. -
Inappropriate?I opened the songbird as root, it updated. But now when I open it normally it goes without skins and my library disappears.
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?Where do you have Songbird installed? How did you install it (deb or tar.gz) ?
-
Inappropriate?I uninstalled the deb-installation and re-installed via www.getdeb.net and now it works.
I’m happy
-
The .deb's aren't built or supported by us, so there are likely problems that will come along with those. If you have any troubles again, I would recommend trying out the tarball built by us ;) -
Inappropriate?I installed the .deb
Now I can update Songbird.
But the language is in English (I speak portuguese =/, I'm brazilian).
I’m confused

Inappropriate?I'm having the same issue, but all the files are owned by me. It's not a "root" issue. It would sure be nice to have a "check for updates now" button.
-
The only reason, that i know of, that it can be greyed out is if you installed the deb or have bad permissions somehow :( im sorry. -
Help > Check For Updates... ?
Also, installation via .deb does generally disable update checking. This same thing happens in Firefox, Thunderbird, and other applications. This is because a self-updating application would cause problems with the .deb format - it could gain or lose files, change names, etc. - thus unleashing havoc that a package manager would not be able to fix. So, if there is a package repository that you can add, that would solve the problem, but self-updating Songbird via .deb installation is highly unlikely to work well, if at all, hence why the update mechanism is disabled by .deb packagers. -
Inappropriate?Oi! Please *don't* run as root. As wonderful as Songbird & Mozilla are, it is still a Mozilla application at the core, which means that it could be vulnerable to Mozilla security problems. Running as root means an attacker could gain root access, not good :)
