Using Last.fm Metadata
Something I'd like to see in Songbird is the ability to import metadata (and correct metadata) from Last.fm...I find it's library to be HUGE and about 90% accurate (100% if you pay attention).
I'd like to see this when you edit metadata for your songs...the window would pop up and have a button "get metadata recommendations" or something...then you could browse the top suggestions and find out which one works for you.
The coolest feature of last.fm is that they have an album art image that tells you when your song/album/artist is incorrectly tagged...and you can readily identify it...this is a huge boon to me when editing metadata.
Since last.fm is already integrated for many things...this might give you less development time in making this happen. Just an idea.

Inappropriate?I think this is a great idea. All of the time I listen to a song and it shows up with a little green asterisk next to it in last.fm because the track or artist is named incorrectly. I think the Vandelay Industries add-on even compares your metadata with corrected data on last.fm, so I don't think it would be too much harder to have an add-on take those corrections and apply them to your library's metadata. It would be perfect if it could just give you a big two column list, one column with your current metadata, and the other with the corrected data, and you could just go through and select which changes you would like it to make.

I think Vandelay Industries is one of the best extensions out there right now! Very well made! I wish I could give him 6 stars on it ;) -
maybe we should request it to vandelay. :) -
definitely!... no need to reinvent the wheel... ;-) -
Inappropriate?Fantastic idea! The two column approach is excellent...if you had an arrow at the bottom to go to the next closest match, you might be able to scroll through on those tough songs to find :)
I’m excited

Inappropriate?I am a fool. We don't even have to suggest it for that add-on, because it can already do it. If you run Vandelay Industries and go to the tab that says "Fix metadata", it will make corrections to your metadata based on last.fm. You can also write the updated metadata to the files by going to the "Save metadata to file" tab.

ha. it would be nice for people that dont use last.fm to scrobble their plays to be able to use it. cause it works fine for me since i have history in last.fm, but if you dont use last.fm, you wont be able to get the metadata fix's via Vandalay ;-) -
Inappropriate? Also, Last.fm integration is broken right now in Songbird. For the past 3 days there has been failure to authenticate...see the comments http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addon/106
I’m sad
