Volume increases to maximum
I notices this issue after updating to Songbird 1.1.1. At random intervals during shuffle play, when a new song starts playing the volume increases to max. But the volume control shows the volume level which I have set. When I change the volume bar, the volume level comes back to the level indicated by the volume control.

Okay, kids, we've reproduced this in house (thanks, Malcolm!) and we're working on a fix. Follow the fun at http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show...

The next time someone reproduces this, we need those music files so that we can figure out what's going wrong. We haven't been able to reproduce this in house.
We'll want the file that you were playing before the volume got all loud, and then the track that started playing when the volume cranked up. You can upload those files to bug 15527 at http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show... Thanks!

Inappropriate?If you go to: Tools->Options->Playback.
Is 'audio normalization' checked? If so, uncheck it, click ok and see if the problem still occurs. -
Even with this option unchecked the volume of playback jumps up on some tracks. -
Inappropriate?Does it always happen on the same songs, or at random?
-
It happens at random -
I don't know if there's a discernible pattern, but it only happens once for a song, as far as I can tell, the first time the song plays. Most songs play at a normal volume, but occasionally a song will be really loud. If I click on the volume slider the volume goes back to normal. If I navigate away from the song and back to the song the volume goes back to normal. I've closed the program and opened it again to play a song that played at high volume, and it was back to normal volume when I played it a second time.
EDIT: To add to this, pausing then playing has no affect on volume. -
Inappropriate? Is the volume higher when the song starts to play, or does it change while the song is playing? Is it always higher, or does it also happen to be lower?
-
The volume is always higher. I have noticed some songs being silent, but adjusting the volume has no effect and my songs are shared on the network over wireless, and Songbird has always had some buffering issues where nothing is played because my wireless can be touchy. -
The volume increases at the begining of the song. -
Inappropriate?I have this problem, too. I have disabled the audio normalization and still have the problem.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Ok, the devs are aware of this problem, but need more information to kill the bug.
So please post if you notice any pattern or regularity or just anything that could help to solve this bug. -
Inappropriate?I can tell you that it happens at the beginning of a song and continues throughout it until I correct it by clicking on the volume slider. And it will happen again if you play the song again. It happens on about half of my songs, gotten from *ahem* a variety of sources. It seems to happen on the same songs predictably.
I'd like to post more about this bug. However, I can't really use Songbird with this bug because I can't really have my ears blasted out periodically.
I’m sad

Could you maybe upload one of those songs you're experiencing the problem with (rapidshare or anything like that)? I assume the problem didn't occured in 1.0? -
Correct, this problem was not experienced in version 1.0, at least not by me. -
Agreed. Not a problem in 1.0. -
Inappropriate?I have the same problem, songbird 1.1.1 on Linux (fc8).

I'm surprised that it can't be reproduced in-house. It happens on about half my tracks. I'd upload a couple of files, but I don't have a Bugzilla account. Is there somewhere we could email them? -
Inappropriate?Yeah, send them along to ali@songbirdnest.com.

Inappropriate?I just downloaded 1.1.2, and the problem is fixed for me. Yay! Thanks, Songbirdians. Now I can go back to using my favourite audio player.
I’m happy
