watch folders and removable drives
I read you're working on auto-updating collection by watching a folder. This is really good but I would like to suggest this: having the possibility to add both auto-updating and not auto-updating folders.
The typical problem I have with watched folders is that if I keep my collection on an external drive, everytime I open the player and the drive is off, the collection is emptied, and when I turn it on again it is rebuilt from scratch, this is very annoying
this would be cool: if the folder is stored on a removable drive, it is not watched when the drive is not connected, and if I click on a song and the drive is not connected the programs says 'Please connect the drive [device name]'

Inappropriate?yeah the watch folder functionality just needs to be clever enough to recognise that a particular folder is inaccessible as opposed to empty.
One would hope this would be default functionality.
I’m confident

how about having a checkbox to select whether or not to actively watch the folder when you add folders to your library? -
Inappropriate?there is an add-on that supports using external drives. I haven't tried it but it might work
I’m optimistic

Inappropriate?lack of watch folders and automated library updating = Songbird's biggest weakness against the major media players like winamp
I’m irritated with the need to update llibrary

songbird was made to play online media. it is still far away to be a local player -
Inappropriate?well, you can watch a folder locally and then import a media. Doing so I Was able to keep my library intact with plug and unplug of the drive. Downside however is that songbird will innevitably fait with a pupup box saying it cannot find the file if the drive is offline. Since you have to click no every time it kinna kills the fun ans very quickly becomes quite useless.
This being said, a definite and resounding yes on the idea of adding media from an external storage source. Songbird must be able to keep inn mind that where these files are from but will silently skip them when playing them in a playlist (say I play them all on random). Maybe change the color of the background to indicate these files are offline. Lastly Import media should work in one of three modes
1 - Import files to library but leave them where they are. (current default)
2 - Import files into the watched folder, or into a library folder
3 - Import to library, leave the files where they are and inform Songbird that this folder can be offline.
