Web browser should be optional.
There should be an installation option to get only the player installed. I'm looking for a great player for my songs and I think Songbird is nice for that task, but personally the built-in web browser is a little too much since I'm not going to use it ever.
I understand that a lot of people is gonna use it for music stores and all that, so I'm not saying get completely rid of it, but I would like to have the option to remove it at least.

Inappropriate?Well to be honest,it is as optional as it can be :) Just make sure in the 'tabs' options that 'Always Show Tab Bar' is unchecked and itl just always show the Library, you will only notice the browser within it if you go to a store using an internal link etc.
Regards,
Rich.

Inappropriate? But the security holes are still there mate... Pretending that it isn't there is not the same as turning it off.
There is not one browser that is safe. Each had 1000's of security holes throuthout the years. This means there will always be a security issue.
What browser did not have multiple holes that allowed attackers to completely take over the PC? Ans: They all did. Over and over and over. -
Inappropriate?@vir101010: Any browsers security-holes don't affect your computers security, if you don't visit websites.
Besides this, Songbird uses the latest Firefox-Code (3.0.10), which is considered to be very save, even if you are visiting bad websites.
But if you don't believe me, or you want to be 200% secure, just block Songbirds internet-connection via your Operating Systems Firewall.

Inappropriate?Id like the browser to not be there either. I know a lot of people think its great and you can just not look at it. But that doesn't make it go away. When you do the servey's stuff pops up in it, when you need updates stuff pops up in it. so even if you ignore it, stuff still pops up in it like addons. Kind of hard to ignore something that keeps opening itself. id rather download my addons in my real web browser, and servey's in my browser. Its a media player it shouldn't even Have a web browser. I think a media player should be a media player, and a web browser should be a web browser. but thats just my two liddle cents.
I’m indifferent

Why would you download add-ons in your normal browser when Songbird's browser makes it so much easier? Songbird only shows you the add-ons that are compatible with your OS. -
Inappropriate? The idea behind Songbird is to make an open-source, scalable, customizable media player. The vehicle for its flexibility of a program is the codebase that the Mozilla Firefox web-browser is built from. This is for the obvious reason of using a widely adopted, highly supported, frequently updated framework leaving the fine developers the time necessary to build a quality media player.
The fact remains, if you don't use the browser functionality, you will not be at risk of virii or spyware because you haven't accessed a web page that is the door for their entry. One more paranoid step would be to block all Songbird-initiated Internet connections - the flaw to this is that you can't keep Songbird updated either. That being said, safe web browsing practices (regardless of browser choice) combined with regularly scheduled software updates are all 100% effective at avoiding damaging code from being executed on your computer (read: don't surf dangerous sites and you won't be infected).
From a usability or functional standpoint, there is nothing wrong with taking an existing, mature, and most importantly active codebase from a web browser to re-purpose it for other means (in this case a media player). If this idea is still something that is unsuitable for you, for whatever reason, then it is likely you should be using a different media player entirely.

Inappropriate?I love having them both in one, it's an advance in technology towards having more conveniences in one place. We know you don't like it, but really if you ignore it it's like it isn't even there.

Inappropriate?Zephyr - You can't ignore it, it makes the program's memory usage skyrocket (~130 Megs?!), it makes it bloated and slow, not to mention the possibility of exploits. It even affects Firefox startup time (probably the new instance of the gecko engine or something)...
I'd definately opt for a "Songbird lite" or sg. similar, without the browser option.
