Inappropriate? What platform are you running on?
On Windows there are global hotkeys (Tools-Options-Hotkeys).
Next/Previous track shortcuts are WIN+Right/Left arrow. -
Inappropriate?I am on Linux what do i do?
-
Inappropriate? On Linux global hotkeys are not currently implemented.
There is a bug open for that.
You can track the comments on this work item by:

3. Scroll down and hit commit.
You can install MMKeys add-on which enables the use of the multimedia keys under Linux 32 bit:

Inappropriate? What about for peoples that use OSX? I'd love to use my keyboard's multimedia keys like I do with Itunes or Cog. Thanks.
I’m disappointed

Inappropriate?@replicant
Check Help->Keyboard Shortcuts in Songbird menu bar for a list of keys.
Test them and let us know, if it works for you. -
Nope, doesn't work. I can't play/pause with the spacebar like I could in iTunes, I really miss that, it's a lot easier than using the mouse to do this. -
Inappropriate?Boris, yeah I saw those menus, however I was wondering if a.) they could be mapped to a multimedia keyboard's controls (in this case the logitech g15), or b.) if the keyboard shortcuts can be made global, e.g. usable when more than just songbird has focus.
I’m confident

Inappropriate?I'm also looking for a way to control Songbird with the Mac keyboard's Play/Pause key. Or at least with a global shortcut that works when Songbird doesn't have focus. I use this feature with iTunes all the time - for example, when I get a phone call.
-
Inappropriate?@Cristian
Spacebar should now work on Mac to Play/Pause currently playing track when Songbird has a focus.
Check Help ->Keyboard Shortcuts for more available keys. -
Inappropriate?yea but spacebar is current application dependent... i'm on xp... is there a CLI (command line interface) so that i could make a quick batch file that would send those commands? (play/pause, next, vol, etc)
I’m elated, wait, no i'm not...HEY!

Inappropriate? When I get a phone call, or other interruption, it takes to long to change to the Songbird window. I need to hit one key (or combination) to pause the music, even if another application has focus.
-
Inappropriate?I think there definitely should be a CLI, so that we could at least role our own solution
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I, too, would like to use my mac multimedia keys - I use a macbook, and the F7, F8, and F9 keys are also set up as function keys to skip back, play/pause, and skip forward respectively, in iTunes at least, and I'd like to be able to use those keys on Songbird. Like Christian said - if I get an interruption of some sort, it takes too long to bring Songbird forward and press pause.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Already implemented in an extension guys! Check: http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addon/...
Works perfectly for me on a unibody MacBook 13"
I’m thankful

Perfect !!! thanks -
Inappropriate? There are some OSX users with older keyboards, without those media controls. As far as playback control, I'd like to see Previous/Next mapped to Command + Left/Right. I see no need for two browser back/forward shortcuts when one works fine, and using spaces, Control + Left/Right is pretty useless.
