Thanks!

Inappropriate?I believe support for USB devices is now integrated with Songbird. Try 0.7.0rc1 from developer.songbirdnest.com.
-
Inappropriate?Did you try your device in 0.7rc1? or did you just check to see if the addon was listed. You will notice in 0.7rc1 that we support iTunes libraries, but there is no iTunes addon listed. This is what I mean by built-in. The feature the addon provided has been built into the Songbird code. Thus removing the need for an add-on.
-
Inappropriate? Is this Windows only or is it integrated for all platforms?
-
Inappropriate?AFAIK, it should be all platforms. Are you having problems with a particular device?
-
Inappropriate?Hmm, i am not quite sure how to use it...
iRiver H10 connected via UMS (USB Mass storage) mode on my MacBook Pro... OS X shows that its mounted. Songbird remains as usual... also after a restart.
no special symbols or s.th. else in the pane encountered?
Do i have to make s.th. special so that i shows up in songbird?
(I am using rockbox as an alternative firmware on this device but afaik this shouldnt have an effect on the UMS mode because it's handled by the original firmware) -
Inappropriate? The USB mass storage support (which still requires an add-on unfortunately) only ever supported Windows. And even then it needs an update to the new Device API as it's suffered a bit of bitrot in the last release or two.
I’m hopeful we'll update it eventually

Inappropriate?@ashughes: I tried my device in 0.7rc1 (and now rc2) without the add-on. No, its not supported. I can import the media, but when I disconnect the drive, the media is still shown as available. When I try to play it, of course the song is not found.
That was the great thing about USB-Mass-Storage-Add-on: when i disconnected the device, only the songs from my build-in Harddrive were shown.
Just to make it clear: I'm not looking for standard MP3-Device-Support (copying to or downloading from IPod etc.). I want the features, that USB-Mass-Device Addon gave me, to extend the songbird-library on demand to a device, which is identified by Hardware-ID and not by Drive-Letter (to prevent reindexing, when just the letter changed).
I’m worried

Inappropriate?I just want to add a question:
1. Is there a workaround for 0.7? Can I somehow play mp3s from external device without adding the songs to the library? Something like a Play by Folder - Add on?
P.S.: I just noticed, that USB-Mass-Storage-Addon is on the second place for most downloaded add-ons ever. Even if it has stopped working since 0.5! Please consider this, songbird-developer team.

Songbird can only play media that has been added to it's library or from a URL.
The best way to get this upgraded is to post a comment to the addon's page. -
There are many comments, yet. I added mine.
P.S. there IS an Add-on to play folders without adding to library! But it's not updated for 0.7, so it probably wont help. Anyway: http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addon/... -
Inappropriate?I beg the Songbird team to add this functionality to Songbird. After iPods and MTP devices, I have to imagine that UMS is the next most common file transfer method. I've used mass storage device connections on my last 4-5 MP3 players, and only two of them had the option of MTP.
Clearly this used to be possible, but we either need someone to pick up development of the old addon (who was it anyway, and why did they just drop it?), or we need the Songbird team to take it under their wing (haha, pun! :) ).
I already think Songbird is incredible, but my computer is not my primary listening device. I mostly listen to music via my G1 phone connected to my car stereo. The only way I can connect my phone to my computer to transfer files to it is to use mass storage mode.
I’m frustrated
