Inappropriate?Hi earth,
MTP support for Linux is a common request, and one that we are working hard to fulfill in a future release. To track the comments on this work item:
1. Go to the "people" box in the upper right hand corner of bug #6891;
2. Add your email in the "add cc" box;
3. Scroll down and hit commit.
If you don't have a free bugzilla account, signing up is quick and easy and will allow you to share your feedback directly with the development team. -
That's a bug about drag and drop. There is a bug for MTP under Linux; perhaps you meant to link that instead? -
hmm, yeah try this instead: http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show... -

Inappropriate?+1 for me.
I've got an ancient Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen NX kicking around that I'd love to use with Songbird.

Inappropriate?Is it not possible for you to sync to MTP devices using the folder sync add-on?
It's a bit of a work around but theres no reason why it won't work :)

excellent point ethanjim, thanks! -
How do you do that? -
I'm sorry you're frustrated and I completely understand why you are. Unfortunately we do not have a time line for this scheduled yet. -
Inappropriate?Would it not be possible to open source the Linux side (not the windows) of the MTP support until there is time to schedule it, much in the same way that happened with the iPod add-on. Then maybe developers who enjoy using songbird on that platform can have a go and putting one together!
Like maybe nothing will come of it and the songbird team will end up making it anyways but what's there to lose?
I know other programs on linux have achieved it using the libmtp libraries, software development isn't really my computer field but I'm also guessing that if libmtp is implemented on songbird for linux that means the windows users would also be able to take advantage of this by not having to have windows media player -
I might be wrong, but I am pretty sure the MTP plugin was open sourced too..
Its worth noting though, that despite the iPod plugin being open source, nobody seems to have touched it :( So not sure how many people would work on porting the MTP plugin anyway.. -
Inappropriate?Was all set to start exploring Songbird, but this is a show stopper for me (and my linux box).
I’m sad

Inappropriate?Songbird has missed its chance to be my choice on Ubuntu. I find Banshee the best bet as a modern media player with MTP support. Also Exaile. Or Rhythmbox. Or Amarok...
I’m disappointed

Inappropriate?Is really disappoinment that songbird doesn't have this addon, but it's more frustating that the time that we are clamming for this addon, i'm really dissapointed

Inappropriate?G'day,
Unfortunately there are only so many resources, and Windows just got MTP support. It's not that the Songbird team wont add it eventually (they obviously will), but I guess it makes more sense to do it in order of target audience and ease to do so. Clearly if the songbird team could easily fix 100% of customer needs easily, they would do so, it is isn't that easy..
That being said, the support in Windows I hear is quite amazing, and even apparently has stuff like firmware updating included.
