This was a answer from an old thread about this.
This is not a plug-in bt a workaround:

This can be fixed by changing the config for the browser.
It's probably not the best idea ever, but it's what i've done just to get round the problem.
To do this, go into songbird, open a new tab, then type 'about:config' then do a search for 'agent'.
You should get a result with a preference name of 'general.useragent.extra.songbird'.
Double click it, and change the string to 'Firefox/3.0.4'. This will make most websites think that you are running Firefox 3.0.4 rather than songbird (which in essence are the same thing anyway), so will let facebook chat work again.
I’m happy

Inappropriate? Its most likely because the online friends applet is only shown to a list of tested browsers. Unfortunately, even though Songbird has a firefox base, it sees it as "songbird/gecko", and doesn't know it easily supports it.
One way might be to spoof your user agent to make songbird look like firefox. Not sure if such a plugin exists yet for songbird ("cough where are you geekshadow") :P
I'd suggest maybe taking a screenshot and letting the facebook staff know. Also let them know its a firefox base. Then all they need to do is a add a "songbird" line to their code. -
This is a good idea to tell it to the facebook staff, -
