i experienced this while still on 10.5 as well .. so its not soley an 10.6 issue -
Inappropriate? To everyone who is having this issue :
Please post the model of iPod you're using, your OS and what version of both Songbird and the iPod add-on you have installed. This will help us better trouble-shoot your issues.
Also, the beta2 for 1.4 is out - you might want to try it out. Though be aware that it's still a beta and might have other issues.

Inappropriate?add me to the list. 64 bit Vista ( work computer.. not my choice) Songbird Version: Songbird 1.2.0, Build 1146 (20090616030043) Ipod classic( MA$%0LL) version 1.3. I was in love with songbird to play music at work without loading songs on a work computer... but....
my 30 gig iPod touch ( version 3.0) will not mount either.. have not tried the shuffle yet -
Inappropriate?add me to the list too. Windows XP, 2007 iPod classic 80 GB, songbird: 1.2.0

Inappropriate?G'day,
What do all of these ipod's have in common? Unfortunately, they are all ipods which Apple decided to encrypt the music db for. Why does it matter? because to work around this problem, you must crack Apple's encryption keys. Apple has invoked the DMCA on a number of occasions, and so Apple could shut down POTI's efforts, hence why I think the ipod plugin doesn't support these ipods :(
If POTI did support them, Apple could turn around and demand the functionality is removed. This however doesn't prevent the community from somehow developing it themselves (the ipod plugin for songbird is open source).
Unfortunately the only solution's which I'd imagine POTI could use safely is:
1) Move their HQ to Iran, or a country where there is no DMCA laws
2) Or two way sync with itunes...

Inappropriate?Add me to the list with Snow Leopard 10.6.1, 1st g Nano, 2nd g Shuffle and a 5th g 30G Classic on Songbird 1.4.0b3, Build 1303 with the latest iPod Device Support 3.0.15.1322. Before Snow Leopard everything was fine.
I’m so sad
-
Inappropriate?I am also having this problem. I have an initial-release ipod photo (gen 3?), using osx 10.6 snow leopard, songbird 1.4.0b3 and ipod support 3.0.15.1322 . I suspect it may be a problem in snow leopard itself.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Sorry, I'm wrong in this case. Its not a problem with snow leopard and such. At the moment, 1.4beta series doesn't work with the ipods it seems (or so I seem to be discovering in other threads..
-
Inappropriate?I also don't see my 2nd generation iPod nano in the songbird window. OH, how I wish I could get away from that awful iTunes, which doesn't allow me to put a podcast in a normal playlist (dam!).

Inappropriate?I'm using an iPod video 5th generation on Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala. It appeared once really randomly, but never again. I've checked, and have access to /etc/mtab. I'm about to try adding my user to the disk group using usermod -G disk, username username. I'll let you know if it works.
I’m sad

I think it is a mounting problem in Karmic. Here's a workaround. Maybe this works for you: If you plug in your ipod you see the ipod on your desktop. So just right click on your ipod and select unmount (hope it's named like this, as I'm using the german version) Don't select eject!. Then go to Places and your iPod should be in the list - just click on it to remount it. That's it. -
Thanks Lito! I actually got it to work simply by adding my username to the disk group. I will however give your trick a go if it fails to work again! Thank you! =] -
For the benefit of others, this did indeed fix the problem for me:
sudo usermod -G admin,disk,username username
Don't put the admin group in there unless you want to be an admin after running that command. -
Inappropriate?to the MAC-Users: do you see errors in your Konsole regarding DBUS ?
