Why is Songbird automatically queuing (and downloading) all of the links on websites?
Songbird is automatically downloading every like on the website I visit. It happens in two ways. One is when I click a song in the pop-up library list to play without downloading it, songbird will begin to download every song on the page. The other is similar. When I click download, it queues everything on the page as well. Help!
Thanks,
Jeff

Inappropriate?Hi Jeff,
Surprise, you're the winner of the super secret hungry hungry hippobird! Err, that would be cool, but yeah...
So, we *should* be displaying all those pretty links but we should *not* be downloading without your say so. Can you please head to the downloads page to see if any of the downloads were active?
I’m silly
-
hahahahaha... I want a hungry hungry hippobird :) -
Inappropriate?Love typos, every link on the websites...*
Hey Laura,
Hungry hungry hippobird would be correct. The downloads are definitely active, if I forget to catch it my hard drive will fill up from time to time. And luckily, or not so much... it's still happening today. At least I'm not making this stuff up. -
Inappropriate?Jeff: What version of Songbird are you using, and what add-ons do you have installed? Can you tell us which websites you're browsing to that trigger this behavior? I'm hoping that we can narrow it down to a rogue add-on or to a strange interaction with a website.
-
Inappropriate?Computer's been down a few days sorry bout that. I'm running the latest (1.2.0) version of Songbird, and as for add-ons.... I've got:
Adblock Plus
Concerts
DOM Inspector
Fasterbird
Google Search
JavaScript Debugger
Last.fm
Mac Remote Control Support
mashTape
More of the Same
NABS
Now Playing List
Quicktime Playback
Releases
SHOUTcast Radio
SkreemR Search
Song Notifier
The Exorcist
All are, as far as I can tell, the most recent versions.
A couple example websites would be: vogelspand.blogspot.com and deathelectro.com. -
Inappropriate?Aha!
I got the same problem, but I noticed something interesting...
when I double click a track in the popup list, the whole list is also being loaded into the Now Playing List on the right – and all tracks are being downloaded. But if I just select a track in the page's popup list and press enter, the track is being played but it's neither appearing in the Now Playing List, nor is any track being downloaded.
As I noticed this behaviour of the Now Playing List earlier, that double-clicking on a track loads the whole playlist or library (or album, interpret... whatever the filter is the track is being viewed in) into the Now Playing List, while selecting the track and starting the playback by pressing enter just plays the music without loading all tracks into the Now Playing List, I get the idea that all this might be because of the Now Playing List plugin (and as I see, Jeff, you got it, too!).
So it's all Now Playing List's fault?! Don't know.
Is there anybody else with this problem?
I’m unsure
-
Hmmm, interesting. Can you both try disabling Now Playing to see if that does it? If so I'll toss this thread into the comments on the Now Playing add-on page and see if the author can work on a fix, he's pretty awesome. -
Inappropriate?Hello,
I am new to Songbird but I have always been a big music blog follower. I see that every time I open Songbird, it automatically starts downloading songs from somwhere. I have several music sites bookmarked in Songbird, but that's not where these songs come from. This is a two part question I guess...
1) Where are these songs I'm downloading automatically coming from?
2) How can I sync my favorite websites to Songbird so I can automatically download in this manner?
Thanks,
Jordan

how do I sync 'download' button function to other music blog pages?.
I’m perturbed!

Inappropriate?Hi Jordan,
So I'm guessing your issue is the same as these guys. My guess is the MP3's are coming from the sites you're browsing, but it's a bug not a feature so we can't advise you on part 2 of your question. Please read the comments above and let us know if you also have the Now Playing add-on and if the issue stops when disabling it.
I’m optimistic
-
Inappropriate?Hi Laura,
sorry that I didn't test it yet. Yes, the problem does not longer appear when Now Playing List is disabled.
I’m very optimistic

Super helpful, thanks! I'm going to take this thread over to the Now Playing comments and see what we can come up with. -
By the way, while I was over there I read up on some of the more recent posts and another user reported the issue there as well. -
ah, Laura, thanks a lot : ) -
Hehehe, yeah, you're right. But you don't have to disable it anyway, if you use the select-and-press-enter way instead of double clicking. Or doesn't that work with your Songbird? -
Inappropriate?I don't understand.
If it doesn't automatically download the songs, how can it populate all that meta data?
I’m confused
-
As I understand it -- all music is downloaded, but only temporarily -- if you click "download" -- then it's supposed to save a copy in your download folder. Problem is, now all music is automatically copied to the download folder -- apparently related to the "Now Playing" add-on... I'm disabling "now playing" -- hope they fix this soon -- probably there should be some options about what downloading means in "Now Playing". -
@peterb the problem is already fixed as moshy updated the add-on. thanks a lot, moshy :) -
Inappropriate?Yeah Jordan, as I already tried to explain above, the activated Now Playing List plugin loads the whole list on a webpage into the Now Playing List. But only if you double-click a track. If you just select a single track and press enter to start the playback, nothing is being downloaded. All because of a little bug in Now Playing List, I think.
That's what happens on my Mac. Maybe, that other systems react different so it would be very interesting to find out.
So please try it in your Songbirds, to see, if it's really because of the plugin.
@Jordan, could it be possible, that you surfed through different music blogs and just clicked on several tracks to listen to them, not recognizing that downloads were started which were then continued when you openend Songbird again?
I’m confident

Inappropriate?I really doubt it's just because I browsed into some MP3 links and just forgot about it. Here's what happened today, for example... I open Songbird and it automatically jumps to the downloads screen and begins downloading 3 tracks that I have never seen, let alone tried to download.
So I start browsing the dozens of music blogs I have bookmarked, and the MP3's are the latest from gorillavsbear.blogspot.com. I think the last ones I downloaded were from YANP. Maybe it's because their blogs are simple and the program picks up on the links all by itself?
Anyway I remember that this was happening BEFORE I downloaded the Now Playing List plugin, but I'm going to uninstall it and see if that's the variable. (even if it is, I'll probably re-install it.)
I have a hunch that it has something to do with having these pages bookmarked. Just a hunch.
-
Hi Jordan,
i bookmarked gorillavsbear myself to see if this also happens in my Songbird. Yet there happened nothing, but perhaps if the site gets a new update? I don't know, but I'm afraid, that this still won't really solve the problem... and you really bookmarked the pages and did not subscribe to it... right? ;) Hm, I got no idea, but I will follow this problem and see what happens, when I bookmark the pages. -
Inappropriate?Well I actually looked for a 'subscribe' option in the browser and didn't find one so I just bookmarked my favorite pages. I don't do RSS or anything like that. Is there a way to subscribe so that Songbird monitors those pages and automatically downloads the new tracks that have been posted since my last login?
I've uninstalled NPL plugin and will wait 24 hours to check and see if anything else downloads. -
Inappropriate? If you want more genius, you can subscribe to music blogs by right-clicking the "plus" sign next to the location bar or Selecting File > New Subscription...
You can find more info at The Web in Songbird Getting Started pages...

-
Inappropriate?Hello!
the new version of Now Playing List shouldn't start downloading all the tracks from a web playlist now. However it also won't queue them up either, I'm afraid it's either one or the other... Let me know if it's still downloading everything for you.
