Will not play logically down the library. Next song goes to currently selected track.
If I play a song and then continue to click through my library (single click) to view and edit metadata, when the initially played song finishes then next song played is the one I currently have selected. This is very annoying and I cannot figure out why it happens. I just want it to start playing the song selected and continue logically down until I change it by playing a different track.
We need a 'Now Playing' playlist, a 'Quick Playlist' or something of the sort.

N

Inappropriate?can not confirm that at least not with the linux 1.0 x86_64 tarball and default settings.r u experiencing this with shuffle on (where this might be a coincidence) or off?
-
Inappropriate?Does not matter if shuffle is off or not.
I think a good example of this issue is if you play a song from any artist, then navigate to another artist/alum and either let the track end and naturally continue to the next track or skip to next track. The next track will be from the currently selected artist and not the originally selected one.
I would just like it to keep playing from the initial location/artist/album until I choose another song to play....without creating a new playlist every time.

Ty for the quick response W -
Are you saying that MediaMonkey will play the next track from the main view even if you re-sorted your playlist to only see completely different artist? That's kind of weird. I think that a lot more users will not be happy, if we do that. You're right, that better be an option to turn on/off rather than main functionality. -
@ Boris : No. That's not really what I'm talking about. If I resorted my playlist in meadiamonkey, then obviously yes.
I'm saying that in Songbird, when I double click on a track in the main view to play it and then click on an artist in the Artist filter pane just to browse my library quickly, then the next track will be from the currently select artist. It will not keep playing from the initially selected artist/location.
Does that make sense? You should be able to reproduce this easily.
1. Select All Artists
2. In the Main view double click on any track to play it.
3. Select another artist (single click) just to browse from the Artist filter pane.
4. The next track will now play from the currently select artist and not the originally selected one.
5. Frustration ensues.
Thanks for the reply Boris. -
Inappropriate?ah i see - well some might call it a feature as the playlist dynamically changes to the selected artist/album - if you stay in the all/all/all mode this won't happen ;-)
-
Inappropriate?I hear ya, but that would be a nice 'feature' to be able to turn off. Otherwise it creates an iTunes like scroll fest to get to another artist rather then using the artist window to navigate directly and efficiently while maintaining a static play order.
I'm not a fan of my media player trying to predict what I want to hear by default and not allowing me to turn that 'feature' off.
Honestly this is why I hated iTunes and loved the tree style nav of MediaMonkey, WMP and just about any other decent media player out there.
Is that too much to ask for? -
Inappropriate?Hello everyone,
I have reported the same problem at http://gsfn.us/t/o4u
I was really hoping that with the release of version 1 that this would be fixed, but as nicbot stated, frustration ensues, don't get me wrong, I love songbird and I love open source, but this issue shouldn't be looked at as feature the way W has quoted.
To me, modern computing is mainly based in the premise of being able to multi-task, when you can only play the artist that is displayed in front of you, you can't multi-task.
And nicbot, correct me if i'm wrong but even in iTunes was there not a shortcut you could click on to take you back to "Now Playing"? It seems that songbird may be the only media player, that I have used at least, that doesn't keep a running tally of what album is playing so you can change tracks while browsing for the artist that you want to play next.
Once again, please don't convey my frustration with this issue as frustration with Songbird in whole, what you guys do is amazing, keep up the great work!
I’m lovin' Songbird, but miffed about this problem.
-
Inappropriate?100% agreement with nicbot. I reported this months ago, but it got merged in with an unrelated bug.
Winamp does this perfectly. Just copy that. This is the main problem that's stopping me from using Songbird. Until it's sorted I'll stick with Winamp.
And it definitely isn't a feature!!!
I’m irritated

Inappropriate?I also don't like this feature. I want to play Artist A while browsing Artist B. Until I actually manually click to *play* something from another list, like manually activating a song from Artist B, my player should continue on the playlist for Artist A.
Windows Media Player and Winamp behave this way, iTunes offers a shortcut to get back to the now-playing list, but Songbird schizophrenically plays whatever you're jumping around to.
This is a HUGE pain when I use addons that create playlists like SmartyPants, that suggests new music for me to play. I can't stay with the suggested songs unless I stop browsing/organizing/tagging my library.
