Inappropriate?Looks like GStreamer should: http://wiki/index.php?title=Developer...
-
Inappropriate?Your link provides a 404. But anyway, did you actually tell me _Songbird_ will, and when ?
I’m unconcerned
-
Inappropriate? So what now ? Gstreamer DOES support MPC files.
In fact if I rename a .mpc file in .mp3, Songbord will play it!!
But it doesn't accept the mpc extension.
Why??????????????
I’m frustated
-
Inappropriate?Yeah, it's is quite stupid, that Songbird is the only one "music"-player, that cannot play *.mpc files. Rhythmbox does, Amarok 1.4 does, Amarok 2 does, Banshee does and a few more do, but Songbird don't. Sad.
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate? If it can help someone, here's how to play mpc files with songbird: you have to remove mpc from the blacklisted extensions.
To do this, I defined a key "songbird.mediacore.gstreamer.blacklistExtensions" in
about:config and set it to
"txt,htm,html,xml,pdf,cpl,msstyles,scr,sys,ocx,bz2,gz,zip,Z,rar,tar,dll,exe,a,
bmp,png,gif,jpeg,jpg,jpe,tif,tiff,xpm,dat,swf,swfl,stm,cgi,sf,xcf,far,wvc,mpp,mp+"
It worked for me.
I’m indifferent

This is great, but I don't understand where or how this setting is changed. Please add a little more detail for the lesser informed like me. -
Warning: The following "trick" is just to let Songbird accept mpc files while scanning your library.
You will be able to *play* these mpc files only if GStreamer is correctly configured.
With Linux there is no problem, but I don't know anything about GStreamer on windows.
So the trick is:
- Open a new tab and enter the following address: "about:config".You will see there the list of all config variables.
- Right-click in the list and choose "new string".
- Enter as preference name "songbird.mediacore.gstreamer.blacklistExtensions".
- Enter as value "txt,htm,html,xml,pdf,cpl,msstyles,scr,sys,ocx,bz2,gz,zip,Z,rar,tar,dll,exe,a,bmp,bmp,png,gif,jpeg,jpg,jpe,tif,tiff,xpm,dat,swf,swfl,stm,cgi,sf,xcf,far,wvc,mpp,mp+".
- Rescan your collections: now mpc files have been accepted. -
Inappropriate?Songbird team doesn't want to support it. I know that because of this "bug" : http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show...
You should vote for it because with a little chance, the team would do the necessary...
I’m confident
-
Alejandro, I did comment on the bug report you linked to.
Tired of waiting, I decided to drop Songbird. Long live Winamp ! -
I'm also tired of waiting for Songbird to be somewhat usable on Linux. It is sooooooooo slow. I'm now using Quod Libet and it's exactly what I need: fast, easy with powerful search capabilities. -
Inappropriate?Antoinem's suggestion worked here too, thanks. Did not knew how to "rescan" the library (is there a function for that? I tried F5 but it did not work out) so had to drag-drop all the .mpc files to Songbird.
And BTW, this bug won't be fixed due to "patent potential problems" according to the team. It could actually look as a strange reason if you consider that many other players support Musepack...
I’m undecided
-
Inappropriate?tried adding that key, but it didn't help:( songbird reads tags from mpc, however when i try to play them i get "Internal data flow error". if a file has no tags i get different error: "A Musepack (MPC) decoder plugin is required to play this stream, but not installed". Any ideas?
ps. I'm working on snow leopard
-
Inappropriate? As I already mentioned, the configuration key was only to let Songbird accept mpc files while scanning the library.
I guess you will have to install Musepack plugins for Gstreamer on Mac OS, but I don't know more about this.
