Work with more music stores, collate results and take commission.

It is no secret that a large percentage of Apple's profits come from their music stores. Songbird only offers 7Digital integration, and that doesn't work in many countries.

I strongly suggest that Songbird offers official support with more music stores, and make it part of the active development cycle. In return by offering it by default, take commission (even if its just 1% of the profit per song). After a while, it should begin to pay itself off, and the money inflow could produce enough profit to hire a developer full time to maintain that stuff indefinitely. First party support for music store integration, would in effect also increase the featureset and the userbase.

I'd suggest working with:
Amiestreet.com
Ensure you are making a profit off 7Digital somehow
Amazon MP3 store maybe (even though it is America only).

A website should also be set up for music stores to apply to become a part of songbird. Even better, results from the stores could eventually be collated, so that users can easily find the cheapest song in the region, and be offered multiple formats from the various music stores for a song.Whilst one store may offer a 128kbps version of a song for 99c, another store in the region may offer the same song at 320kbps at 99c.

It should be setup to offer users as many options as possible, and give users a range of options in their formats. We could encourage competition!
