You Tube integration on Songbird?
After running a quick search on here I noticed no one had really mentioned YouTube integration as a main feature on songbird. Which really surprised me as I was under the impression that we wanted songbird be a "web player".
With many people talking about adding social functions to songbird and the ability to play videos in the upcoming versions of songbird it seems the next logical step that some form of Integration with YouTube is added, with it being the largest video hosting website on the net.
No mainstream media player (iTunes or Windows Media Player) have the ability to play the flash videos weather it's online or stored locally so this would be a great step above both iTunes and WMP.
After a bit of thought I put together something roughly similar to how I imagine it could be integrated into Songbird though I didn't put any You Tube branding onto the main window so please use your imagination for that bit!
On here there is an extra function added to the sidebar called "Online Media" as i would assume that other video services with a sufficient enough API could also be integrated.
The Video would be played in the main window using songbirds own controls instead of YouTubes own.
At the bottom are the results for a search which allow the user to view a thumbnail of each search result, the title of each video with its description, the URL encase the user wants to open the video in the default browser (though personally if this was on songbird I wouldn't need that ;) ) and a link which gives the user to save the Video onto their hard disk.
As far as I'm aware "High Quality" You Tube videos can be downloaded directly in mp4 which is the format used by most portable players so when video support gets rolled out they could be transferred directly from the You Tube onto the users mp3 player or played directly in Songbird without having to connect to the internet.
I think this would be a great feature to add to songbird even if its not how I'd put it together and I'm sure a fair few people agree with me on here :) so let me know what you think and maybe we can get this going!

Inappropriate? That mockup looks really good; however, whenever people talk about incorporating video features into Songbird, I always feel that audio and video are different enough that there should be separate programs to deal with them respectively. You should check out the open-source program Miro, because it is made to work wonders with web video sites like YouTube.
I hope that one day, Songbird and Miro should form an alliance and work together to push forward media on the web.

Inappropriate?Miro doesn't support addons :(

Oh, I didn't think about that. I wonder if they ever plan on it? They are based on Mozilla code and it seems like they should have supported them from the beginning if they plan to. -
Inappropriate?songbird use to play videos, not very well, but it did, back before 1.0
1.0 and beyond, it uses gstreamer ported to windows by POTI
before 1.0 they used VLC codecs
personally, i wish they stayed with VLC codecs
