Subscribe to "all tracked items"
Would anyone besides me be interested in subscribing (via Gcal / iCal etc) to "all tracked items" rather than just "your events"? Personally, I'd like to see all upcoming events in my Google Calendar or phone calendar then make a decision on whether I wanted to attend, rather than having to log in to Songkick every time and tediously check which events I plan to attend. This is one of the main reasons why I joined Songkick - I did use Last.fm but its event suggestion is a bit ropey.....

Hey everyone,
The layout of the site has changed since Emily's last post in this topic.
If you're looking to export all your dates to Google Calendar, iCal or Outlook, check out the link below for an up-to-date guide!

Cheers. -
Hey all,
Today we released a new, simplified look for Songkick (you can read more about the changes here - as part of this new release, we're happy to let you know that you can now subscribe to events for your tracked artists!:
Toggle between the tabs on your calendar to subscribe to either events for your artists, or your plans.
Let us know if you have any questions :)

Yeah I'd like that too.
I was actually involved in building the iCal feature, and there were a bunch of reasons why we only did 'your events' but mostly it was to keep the feature simple so we could ship it and start using it!
The idea we had was actually to have an iCal feed for each of the separate tabs on the dashboard - tracked artists' events, tracked venues' events etc, Then you could pick and choose which of those feeds you were interested in.
Would that work for you?

Yeah, that was exactly what I was thinking - different subscribe options for each tab. I can see why you guys opted to keep it elegant and simple though.
The option would definitely work for me if you guys have it in the pipeline though! -
-
A separate feed for each would make me very, very happy!
The first thing I did when adding the feed to my google calendar was to try and hack the 'filter' parameter to access the other "reasons"... was sad when it didn't work -
-
I posted the same idea on the Songkick blog. As I said there, this feature would help me go to shows. I hear about them now from so many different sources and I often find myself missing shows. If they were all on my google calendar then I could manage them into my schedule more frequently. I like the idea of being able to create different feeds/calendars for going, might go and tracked band.
-
-
Any progress being made on this idea? This is definitely something i am very interested in and would frankly make me visit your site more often as i would be able to see ALL my tracked events not just the ones i manually add which is sometimes a little tedious and time consuming. As it is i usually end up missing a lot of events and subsequently now only visit the site every now and then when i remember to do so. PLEASE add this feature.
thx-
It's something we're still thinking about and will be deciding on in the new year! We'll keep you updated :)

I realize I can subscribe to "My Events" but I still have to log into Songkick and click that I am going to a show before it shows up. I would like to be able to log into my Google Calendar and just browse all up coming events via my calendar.
This would be much easier and more convenient. I use Songkick to see what shows are coming up, not necessarily plan a show for me and my friends.

Is there any chance of providing a calendar export for all upcoming events like the export for 'my events' - events I'm attending?
It'd be nice to be able to see upcoming events as a calendar as well as through the webapp.
This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled

I also think it would be very useful to include all my tracked items in a calendar feed. That way i can see all upcoming shows immediately on my iphone or laptop. At the moment i'm using an rss feed from another provider but songkick has a much better database.
-
-
Definitely my number 1 request for the service. Having upcoming gigs in my area appear on my calendar is infinitely more useful than having gigs that I already know I'm going to. Please add this feature!
-
-
Yes to having all the bands appear by default.
I admit it is annoying having iCal cluttered up with too many band listings, so maybe you should just be able to log in to de-select bands that you are not interested in rather than selecting those you are. -
-
Is there an iCal link for 'All tracked items'?

of course we need this feature. why the hell would you question that?? I already know what shows im going to... what i need to know is what shows are coming up.
-
-
For now, I guess a quick hack would be a blanket "might attend status" on all items in my tracker. This makes it pop up in my iCal :)
-
That's a nasty kludge that the market will eventually fix - will it be songkick or someone else...?

-
-
Is there any update to this?
One of the first things I went looking for in Songkick was a way to integrate it with my other calendars, so kudos for having Google Calendar integration!
While I realize you want to keep the feature simple, I think a stop-gap solution would be to at least respect the filter-argument in the URL, so if a knowledgeable user changes it he or she will get the right results. Currently it seems the filter-parameter is passed, but ignored on the server side. Should be an easy fix, with no impact on users who don't know or care how to modify it?-
sadly no update at the moment, but we'll take your suggestion on board :)
-
-
Could you explain the filter thingy? :)
-
-
-
-
-
I'm not sure this is ever going to happen.... Think about it, if there was a way for us to avoid having to go to the website then Songkick would miss out on potential revenue from ticket sale kickbacks. I suppose it's fair enough really, they're running a free service and have to make money back somehow.
-
...not if they just formatted the URL's in the calendar items to include a referrer ID :)
-
-
I'm afraid I don't agree at all - for several reasons:
Firstly, I think they would be crazy to pass up an opportunity to closer integrate their service into people's lives. The have an opportunity to become a ubiquitous feature of modern, digitally-augmented life, and not merely a service one has to visit to take advantage of. I.e. they can go *to* the user, instead of relying on them to come to it.
Secondly, they would also be passing up an opportunity to get their marketing messages and ticketing linkbacks into people's calendars and actually widening their reach not reducing it.
Thirdly, calendars can be *shared* and made visible to more people than just the individual who owns it.
And finally they would be doing something to guard themselves against disruption from a competitor who does take the opportunity to get closer to it's users. -
-
-
-
-
Just adding my vote for this. I know that a lot of my friends would use Songkick just for this feature :)
-
-
I found out why I wasn't getting iCal updates through another post where I learned that I had to one-by-one click "I wanna go" or whatever for EVERY event to get calendar updates. How totally useless. I can manually enter the events in my online calendar in 25% of the time it takes to do it your way. So why would anyone use this?
I strongly agree with other opinions that a calendar subscription only makes sense if you can stream in all the events from the categories you've selected. In my case I go to some of my 20-30 favourite venues in my city a few nights per week. I just want a convenient way to see what my choices are. In my calendar would be an ideal way for that to happen.
Why should I jump through hoops for you? I thought the service was for us live music fans.
I'm really curious about how ANYONE could possibly find the current implementation useful, because I can't. Seriously. All opinions welcome! Maybe I'm missing something.
That aside, I'm finding this site a great resource.

Hey guys,
Sorry that there's not been any progress with this. It isn't a case of us not wanting to do it, but rather that we have a lot of improvements to make, and loads of new exciting things to build, and we have to weigh things up against each other! Whilst we are in agreement that it'd be great to have this feature, it's not top of the to do list just yet.
The reason we didn't build it in the first instance is because we weren't sure people would want to have all items they're tracking in their personal calendar. Having it has an option is still something we're considering for future improvements though, but it's not possible to say when exactly. -
-
I have a real suspicion the 'new exciting things' won't be as useful as a calendar of things I might be interested in.
I can't even think of anything more useful that a calendar of things I might be interested in. What is the point of the service if not to provide that?
I just don't understand. -
-
Is it possible to get ical/google calendar for the upcoming events from my tracked artists? I could just be blind and am not seeing how to do it; Or is it only my events that i can subscribe to?
Thanks, love the site.

Subscribe to all of your tracked artist events.-
Nope, they *still* haven't implemented this - no idea why, it makes no sense to me. I barely use songkick simply because I forget to, but if my tracked artists appeared on my calendar (which I use EVERY DAY) I'd probably use it more often. A lot more often. Especially if the simplest thing to do is to click through from the calendar to get to songkick to buy tickets...

I've actually stopped using songkick and started using bandsintown, as they *do* provide an ical feed.

For bandsintown? Yes - copy the URL for the iCal feed (right click on the calendar icon then "Copy shortcut" or "Copy link location"), then in Google Calendar simply Add - Add By URL, paste in the ical link.
-
-
Hell yes! (I tried that before and failed, but somehow it works because you said so ;) )
- the fbcal could perhaps filter in/out going there - or maybe's... will report back! :) -
-
-
-
-
yeah, shame you don't have the 'all events' bandsintown does it well..Great site thanks. tk
-
-
hi guys.
i think this should be the top functionality songkick should implement, because 1) having to use the web interface is pretty dumb and annoying
2) one can't be interested in a calendar that tells him/her what he/she already knows
but i also think that for some reason they DO NOT WANT to implement it.
maybe it's just a matter of performance, as exporting 5-6 events instead of hundreds of events per user would of course affect performances.
anyways i don't think i'm gonna use this service anymore if bandsintown actually have this feature.
so if you don't wanna loose other users just invest some time (i'm a web developer and i can't hardly believe this can take more than a few hour of coding and testing) and implement the option.-
I couldn't agree more. With all of it. Shame - so long songkick.
-
-
-
-
-
I think the best option for this would be to let the user choose which calendar to subscribe to.
Here's my suggestion:
In the "Upcoming Events" view (http://www.songkick.com/calendar), different tabs are available to filter the calendar:
- All events
- Your events
- People
- Artists
- Venues
- etc.
Under the "Your events" tab, there's a "Subscribe to your events" button with which you can export to Outlook, GCal, etc..
Why not put this button under each tab accordingly?
If a tab/filter is selected by the user, the "Subscribe" button changes function accordingly (i.e. gives the different ical links to click):
- If "Your events" is selected, a click on the "subscribe" button opens e.g. for Outlook:
webcal://www.songkick.com/users/[username]/cal...
- If "All events" is selected, the "subscribe" button would open e.g.
webcal://www.songkick.com/users/[username]/cal... -
-
I want to be able to have "All Tracked Items" calendar for Upcoming Events which I can subscribe to. While it's all nice and fine to subscribe to "Your Events" calendar, it's not super useful in helping me find out what's coming up!

Yeah, not being able to see all tracked bands on my calendar is kind of a deal breaker for me. I'd love it if you guys added this as an option.

This is bordering on deal-breaker for me too. I love the website, but I'd really like this feature. Fortunately iConcertCal does just this.

I love the idea of a feed to subscribe to events... but you should make a feed available for all tracked artists events as opposed to just events I'm going to!

so apparently this feature isn't gonna happen? Could also take the advertisement for the iphone app out of the email you send to notify of concerts?

Hi there - it's still something we're keeping in mind for the future, but unfortunately we are constantly battling with a long list of features that we'd like to build for our users! We'll keep your feedback in mind about the iPhone app ad too. If you have any other questions or problems, let us know!

So I'm new and can't see anything in my gcal. Seems to be this issue. But I want to let you know, that for me this feature is the first I wanted to check and was at least trying to find it for an hour.
I think you should again evaluate your priorities. Would otherwise forget about songkick very soon and this by accident, because there is no interaction at all what would be automatically with gcal notifications :(-
Hi Hannes, hopefully you got my response on your other post! If there's anything else I can help with, let me know.

They won't go to your gcal unless you click that you "might go" or "are going". Tracked items themselves don't go to your calendar. I put my gcal up on my website if you want to take a look at what it looks like embedded:
www.rebelgirlcanada.tumblr.com/concerts -
-
Seems like there's quite a bit of desire for this... you guys should really work on your prioritization
-
As an entrepreneur and marketer, there's really no excuse for not having a feature that will drive engagement and traffic among your core heavy users after a year of requests for it. Especially when tech implementation is VERY simple.
-
-
Hey Josh,
Thanks for your two cents - we're aware that it's a popular request but unfortunately it's not yet something we've been able to get to. Unfortunately in a growing start-up with a small team, prioritising new features isn't always as straight-forward as it might seem! There are a lot of factors to weigh up :)
Hopefully we can get to it in the near future though, thanks for bearing with us. -

As I talked about in another thread, the UI for subscribing to an iCal event is confusing and doesn't give an indication that you are only subscribing to events "you might go to". I consider this feature very broken and have missed concerts because of this behavior. I expected subscribing would include all the events I am tracking, not just the ones I might attend. I consider Songkick to be broken because of this, and haven't really used it because of this major bug.
I hope for the sake of everyone in this thread this feature is changed. Confusing UIs are never a good thing. I'm holding off from using songkick until this feature is fixed. I hope you understand. Thanks for all the fish.
-Erik-
Thanks for the feedback, Erik! We're aware that this is a feature people want, and we're definitely keeping it in mind for future iterations.

-
Hi Seth, thanks for getting in touch. Unfortunately it's not currently possible, but we're keeping it in mind for the future!
Brooke -
-
Not possible. Yeah - we know. That's what this thread is all about!
Question is: when will you make it possible? -
-
-
-
-
Just found out about the site, went "hey this is kinda nice". Then noticed the google calendar export and went batshit insane, as this is something I've been looking for since I started using online calendars. Then I realized I still have to click each of the gigs I might be attending to actually see them on my droid, and started screaming and throwing around furniture.
To give you an idea of how much I want this feature, I've actually started diving into Python&Beatifulsoup to create a crawler that would parse the local venues' webpages and pass them to google. I guess it's back to the coding books for me...
Also what's the deal with getsatisfaction, seems like all software companies that use it for customer feedback never actually implement anything suggested there(YES I'M TALKING ABOUT YOU SPOTIFY).
Anyways, good job on the service, best of luck et cetera.

So what is the looooooooooong list of features? Really, I haven't seen any changes or improvements on songkick that would back up your statement.
Brooke, after literally years of postponing this feature - one of the few features that is actually strongly requested by users - the credibility of your response is close to 0% and decreasing.
Watch your community - migration from one songkick to another is fast on the internet. -
-
Hi aziztcf/M16
To expand a bit more on what Brooke said, we are still a small team and on top of building new features we have many things that need our attention behind the scenes. These (sadly!) often have to take priority over the front-facing features so that the site continues to work smoothly and can cope with an increasing number of users. Ideally we'd be able to do both at the same time, but unfortunately it isn't as easy as that and things take a lot longer to work on than might be expected.
We're aware that this is a popular request though, and as Brooke says, we hope that we can bring it to you in the future! -
-
-
-
EmilyS,
Where is the donation box, so that you can hire more devs? ;-) I think the general consensus is that many of us users consider this feature to be top on our list, or broken because it does not do what we expect. That being said, there is always a tradeoff between backend and front facing work. I hope SongKick chooses the right balance.
Thanks for replying.

So, it seems that a million people want to SUBSCRIBE to ALL TRACKED EVENTS. PLEASE can you put this on the top of the list? This is an awesome site, but i can't recommend it whole-heartedly til it has that feature (lastFM has it, but they dont have all the artists updated)
-
-
It would be great if, like Last.FM, you guys had an option to show ALL recommended events by your tracked artists instead of just the ones that you are going to . IE ALL tracked artists instead of 'your events'. Thanks!

Please make this happen. I'm also willing to donate to the project to get features like this added to the project.
Thanks for all the hard work this is a great service. It just needs a few small features. ;) -
-
Yes, please bring this essential feature to Songkick. This is what iConcertcal used to do and it was phenomenal. That is the reason I signed up- I just assumed that your service would do this. In fact, i thought the subscription feature was broken when my calendar didn't populate with upcoming events. I even filed a ticket!
For this to take off, users must be able to discover new concerts via the calendar interface they use every day.
Thats where the magic of this service lies. For the user its all about discovery. Your site is great, but it is unrealistic to expect users to visit every day to check on concert listings... Thanks Songkick and please send an update.- view 1 more comment

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see that this is a major improvement. By "all tracked events" you seem to mean "all tracked artists". This may be OK for people who stay home most of the time and only have say 20 or so artists they're willing to see, but what about REAL music fans.
I would say that, like most real live music fans, I have several thousand bands that I'd like to see if they happened to come through my city. I'm obviously not going to make a list of those on Songkick... especially since most of those bands don't live in my city and play here regularly.
On the other hand, there are probably only about 20-30 venues in my city where I'd consider going to see any band. Since I'm probably more typical of genuine live music fans everywhere, it makes more sense for me to have a subscribe-able calendar for my 20-30 preferred venues, and use my power of recognition to spot those artists I'd like to see.
If I can do this now with your new interface, can you give me some pointers on setting that up?
I DO like the idea of not having to go through the fake commitment-to-go exercise in order to see events in my calendar.
...Charles-
It also works for real music fans. I go to an average of 2-3 gigs per week which I guess pretty much puts me in that category and I do want to see my thousands of artists on my calendar so I can choose where I go every week. I also have to say I do live in London so every week there's a dozen of my artists around.
I don't use the "all tracked events" option but it's just because it would crash my calendar and I prefer adding them one by one from the e-mails and click "I might go". It's more tedious but I avoid adding artists I've already seen/I don't feel like seeing or when I'm already seeing somebody else that day.
I also miss the "tracking venue" option but in theory that might be back somewhere down the line and I perfectly see the point of wanting to track every single one of your artists when they go to your town. To be honest, that's the main selling point of this site. -
-
Hi guys,
Thanks for the feedback. Charles, as Andunemir says, we recently removed the ability to track venues. It's part of some overall changes made to the site (more info here: http://bit.ly/tlC6VV) - we're taking Songkick back to a blank slate so that we can rebuilt the most important features in a way that better scales with our growing userbase.
We're keeping a close eye on feedback about the changes, so I'll make sure that your objections are heard. If you have any other thoughts, feel free to send them over.

I deleted my SongKick account a couple weeks ago after reading about the coming changes, but with this being getsatisfaction I still get e-mailed on this topic, which means I get to complain on something I no longer use. :D
Anyway, I noticed the announcement also stated that soon you will no longer be able to track venues:
http://www.songkick.com/blog/2011/11/...
So Charles, I guess they won't even consider the option.
Thankfully, there are other options. Some time back I posted on here about bandsintown.com, which had the ability to get iCal feeds for all artists already. As it turns out you can track venues too. HTH :)-
Hi Patrick,
Thanks for your message, I've made a note of your feedback about tracking venues. If you have any other feedback, let us know!

One of the first things I went looking for in Songkick was a way to integrate it with my other calendars, so kudos for having Google Calendar integration!
