No sound from playing songs.
Each time I try and play my songs, they start up normally, and the timer shows up, it even shows the songs playing, but I get no sound. I get sound for 1 song, but none of the others. I'm using Firefox as my browser. There is nothing wrong with my sound card, seeing as all of the other websites I use, I get proper sound from.

Inappropriate?Ya my computer is fine playing sound from any other application, but songza is not playing any sound. The timer shows up and it says the song is playing but it does not work
-
Inappropriate?Yeah, it's just the songs from youtube. I don't know. They won't play.
I’m confused AND frustrated.
-
Inappropriate? We do have a known issue with YouTube songs not playing on certain browsers, and are working to resolve this. However, it is typically occurring in Safari, and most Firefox users are not affected. I'd be interested to know if you're able to play non-YouTube content, like this one:
http://songza.com/z/ktzmav -
Inappropriate? My problem, too. Safari 3.1.1 plays fine in every regard except an important one......."sound." No sound. Ah well.
-
Inappropriate? My problem is identical to Andrew's. I also am using firefox. Help!
-
Inappropriate?yes scott, i can play the song there. It seems to be youtube content that is my main problem.
-
Inappropriate?I too use Firefox and have this problem. It started a couple of days ago for me.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I have exactly the same problem, but it is NOT only with youtube but with many sources. I am using Firefox 1.5.0.4.
I’m frustrated beyond belief
-
Inappropriate?Hi All,
We'll be releasing an update to Songza, this week, which should resolve the problem of Songza not playing. It should go live as early as tomorrow.
Thanks so much for your patience while we've been working to fix this problem.
Best regards,
Scott -
great, thanks!
(I also have this problem--I use the new firefox and can play the above song) -
Still can't hear any sound!!!! -
Inappropriate?w00t finally I can start using Songza as my playlist site again. Thank you so much Scott =D
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate? Now I can't play any songs (source is irrelevant) with Firefox 3.
-> No time progress bar is shown after pressing play, even not after minutes
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? Was curious also why songs from www.box.net don't work on Firefox, e.g. Vienna Boys Choir - Jesu Joy Of Man's Desiring (couldn't get link to song - the link just returned me to my songza).
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?STILL not working. I posted in the other thread as well. There is No sound. I've tried songs from different locations as well. I'm also using Firefox. I tried with IE as well. Nothing. Give us some feedback? It's been 4 days?
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?i, too, can't hear the songs. it shows it's playing. there's no problem with my sound card cause i have no problems with hearing on others sites.
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate? The problem had been resolved as of last week, but it does look like we're having problems with the YouTube API now. I will look into this and get back to everyone. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
-Scott -
It is just not the utube API. -
Inappropriate?my lack of sound problem can not be attributed to youtube or firefox. I have internet explorer. not a single song in my playlist will produce sound any longer whereas other sites are just fine. I give up.....
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?whatever new releasse you sent out has not solved my problem sadly. it worked great for 2 weeks and now no sound. the songs are playing just fine per the display window, but I can not hear a single one of them.
guess I will check back in a few months....
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?FYI... i'm on IE7, latest everything.
i can play the song you linked to, http://songza.com/z/ktzmav, which is awesome, by the way. i can't play this: http://songza.com/z/vu660h.
I’m not sippin' on some sizzurp.
-
Thanks for posting the link. What version of IE 7 are you using, and with what OS? I'm able to sip on some sizzurp with IE7.0.5730 and XP. I'd be happy to help you troubleshoot this problem. -
i'm running IE7.0.6001.18000 on Vista Enterprise SP1. all of the symptoms are the same as others described... everything 'looks' right (status bar moving, etc,) but there's no sound. let me give it another go. -
Oh, the status bar is moving? That should indicate that the song is loaded and is a bit different from the other reports (in those, the loading indicator was spinning, but the file wouldn't load).
I know this seems like a ridiculous request, but try clicking on the volume controls in the player (the vertical lines near the time status). It's possible that the player needs to be notified/reset. -
sorry... i must have misread the other posts. yes... everything seems to be in order, but, for some songs, i get no sound. the volume is at full. actually, it looks like i DO get the 'loading' indicator for some, as well.
i'm not sure how to determine the source of a particular track, but here is another example: http://songza.com/z/29tkau -> can play......... http://songza.com/z/zhz595 -> status & timer moving/no sound.......... http://songza.com/z/ygc8kg -> loading indicator spinning. thanks for all your help! -
Inappropriate?Just chiming in, I seem to have the same problem with YouTube feeds only. Using FF3. The XML response looks fine in Firebug, and the progress bar seems to load. Just no sound. : \
Patiently awaiting the fix, Songza rocks!
-
Inappropriate?I have found an answer to our problem, if you are using Firefox simply go to TOOLS, OPTIONS, PRIVACY, COOKIES, EXCEPTIONS, and type in songza's URL and click on allow. Not all search results will work but about half will.
-
i tried this. It didnt work. -
darnit -
Inappropriate? Can someone please post a link to the profile/songs that are affected? I'd like to look into this and see if I can provide and answer and solution for you. Thanks.
-Scott -
Inappropriate?Hi Scott,
Sorry, not sure where to find the "link" to copy so I can send to you.
However the following song: Loving You (Oscar Lopez: Flashback)
The very first time I used Songza service, searched for all songs by Oscar Lopez, played this song and it played fine, but the rest of the songs in the search list would not play. Now NOR does this song play anymore.
I also searched for some other songs, none of them play.
I am using Vista on a Dell XPS laptop. I play video quite well on any other site, including YouTube.
And I just got a "Stack Overflow" error message - does that help?
Linda
-
hi, linda... i am a newer songza user, as well! to get the link directly to the song, click the song, then go to "share." there will be a "link to song" option that will display a direct link to the song when you click it. good luck! -
Inappropriate?Here's a few I can't play:
http://www.songza.com/z/ael7yq
http://www.songza.com/z/40z9p2
http://www.songza.com/z/ho48y3
http://www.songza.com/z/dumn5z
These are just a few. I cannot play ANY song from YouTube at all. Other songs play okay. I tried Mike's suggestion above but that didn't work for me either. -
Inappropriate?i'm using firefox 3 on a macbook and songza is just not working for me. when i click on the link that sends me to youtube it works on youtube but it doesn't on songza. the bar at the bottom says it's playing but there's no sound. i tried putting my computer sound all the way up and it didn't work. this link (http://songza.com/z/ktzmav) works but none of the youtube stuff works.
I’m sad and frustrated.

Inappropriate?Hello Scott, if this helps, here's what I've tried. The problem has occurred with YouTube songs, and it's happened with Firefox 2, ie 6 and 7, and Safari, with Windows XP. I switched to another network -wifi now- and all songs play fine now. This is using FF3 and ie 6 and Windows XP-- just a different web connection. Does it make any sense that the network could be the problem with how Songza plays back content from YouTube? Or maybe the whole problem has been resolved in the past few hours?
And one more thing, some songs appear only as "arrows" and blank lines in the play list.
http://songza.com/z/7ar0bu
(It can be added to a list, but the title does not appear.)

Thanks so much for doing all of this troubleshooting -- it's so helpful! I just replied with an update on the no-sound issue; it seems to be related to the YouTube chromeless player. As for the blank links in the playlist, give us an e-mail at support [at] songza.com -- we'll be able to help take care of that for you. Be sure to include your username. Thanks, Scott. -
Inappropriate?Scott, When I bring up Songza's home page and click on the 4 or 5 songs on that page the songs will play everytime. The problem is when I search for a song and try to play it. In this scenario I can not get any music to play at all. I tried switching to a different browser than Firefox but with the same results. I did not have this problem originally but it seemed to develop after about a months use. Any suggestions to get my Songza to work? Thanks

Inappropriate?hey guys, this problem started today for me... I've been using firefox 3 for sometime now and had not updated anything as of late. Yesterday the list was playing fine and today some play, some do not.
It seems like it is the Youtube songs that are not playing at this moment. All the others seem ok....
I’m not all that angry, just thought I'd toss in my experience.

Inappropriate?Scott, I checked forums for similar problems of audio not playing back and here are a few related topics. Only trying to help, i'm really not sure what the problem might be, and it's pretty obvious that i'm guessing.
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/08...
"The video plays fine but there is no sound output even though the sound volume bar was set from zero to highest level. It happens also on 3rd party websites or blogs that embed videos. And the no sound problem also happens for Flash-based games or applications, both desktop based or online. ...The cause for the error is probably missing registry key entries for several default Microsoft codecs mapping such as WaveMapper"
As for why it has happened only in recent days might mean that MS changed something in their codecs recently?
"When playing video in Youtube, Dailymotion, Google Video CNet Videos and other Adobe Flash based video sharing sites (but not all video hosting sites, as not all is using Flash Video), the video will have no sound and audio."
And I'm guessing that the web server, the way it processes info, is the thing having the error, not necessarily the computer (desktop or laptop) or browser itself.

http://weyland.be/wrdprss/index.php/2...
I will give it a try, but it might just be totally off the mark, since YouTube videos play audio, but Songza does not have sound.

Inappropriate?FF3.01 and IE7 on Vista HP SP1: No sound on many (most?) songs. When I look in the status bar, it seems the bum songs are coming from YouTube or Google Video, e.g. http://songza.com/z/z2o4yw . No flash blockers installed.
"Featured Songs" on the front page always play, but they're never from YouTube/Google Video. And some songs from the "Top Played" occasionally play, like this one: http://songza.com/z/p7h6y7
Oh, and the status bar always progresses, as if the song is playing, regardless of whether it actually is or not.

Inappropriate?Hey, here's something crazy. This song (via Google Video) doesn't play, as expected:

BUT, if I click to embed it, and then hit the preview play, it plays!
I’m confused

Good detective work! I didn't think to try that. -
Inappropriate?Just heard about Songza today, but it doesn't seem to be working. All UI elements indicate that the song is playing, but no sound. I tried on Safari 3 and Firefox 3 without any luck.

Inappropriate?Hi All,
I've been doing some research on this, and the problem appears to be related to the YouTube chromeless player (the media player that we use to play YouTube videos). The problem is, the YT player remembers if it was muted elsewhere on the web, and thinks it should still be muted on our site. Unfortunately, our volume control does not have access to the part of the YouTube chromeless player that can unmute itself. Apparently, it's a pretty well known problem and is being discussed on the YouTube developers forum:
http://groups.google.com/group/youtub...
As a temporary fix, I've gone ahead and colored the search results so that non-YouTube links are yellowish. That way, if you're having this problem, you'll be able to identify which ones to avoid, . Moving forward, we're working towards a more permanent solution -- either through a YouTube update or other programmatic fix.
Thanks so much for your patience while we resolve this issue.

The strange thing is that I have two "identical" Windows XP Pro systems (same hardware except one is Wi-Fi networked to the cable connection). The Wi-Fi connected system is the one that gives no sound with YouTube originated songs, while we get sound with ALL songs on the other system. Does this make any sense? -
Hi Bob, Yes the problem could potentially affect two identical system. We're still not entirely sure why it's happening, but it seems to be a common problem across sites that use the YouTube chromeless player (see previous post above). We're working diligently to have this resolved soon. -Scott -
Inappropriate? As an interesting side note, over the weekend I was using songza with the same play list. While at home all the songs played fine. I'm not sure how this ties into the issue with the youtube player, but I found it odd.

Inappropriate?Hello Scott I have found that the highlighted songs do indeed play. Good work!
Will check in often to see if other music eventually works. Missing my Songza though.
I’m feeling slightly better.
-
Inappropriate?Hi All,
I've just update the player, so hopefully it will resolve the YouTube no sound issue. Please try a page refresh, and let me know if you continue to have the same problem.
Thanks,
Scott

Inappropriate?Only 2 songs from my playlist works and even when I do search for songs and try to play them, it just says loading and nothing ever happens. I am avoiding the yellow links.
How do I get it to work?
Im using IE 7 if that helps..
I want my songza back :(
-
FYI, my username is Rannoush -
you're doing the opposite. the yellow links are the non-youtube ones and are those that actually work -
Haha..Jeez im dumb! I should have read the thread more carefully..so now i need to re-create my playlist with non-youtube links.. -
Is this problem occurring on all YouTube songs? I've heard of some users have problems loading certain songs, or that it take an extraordinarily long time to load the song. I'd like to help troubleshoot this problem. Thanks, Scott -
I am also noticing that some non-yellow(youtube) songs are playing sometimes. I feel like the whole thing is kinda random. Some songs in my playlist play one day and dont the next. I'm trying to find a pattern but cant find one. Let me know what info you need -
Yes, adarsh is right, the yellow links indicate non-YouTube songs. I added this color as a workaround for people who are having problems with the YouTube API, but it's definitely not a permanent solution. Any info that you can pass along would be greatly appreciated. -
Inappropriate?Playing around with stuff like this always helps. I had this issue before, and I found that I have to either adjust the volume on Songza or rewind the song [ just adjusting the time bar to anywhere ] and it suddenly has sound.
