Sony Customer support, is it always this bad?

I bought a Sony Playstation 3 for my kids. I have been a PS and PSP fan. But this PS3 broke after 4 days of use, the DVD player did not function. I had to have it sent to the Sony PS3 agent in Sweden (Nordisk Film) and they have now had the unit for 5 weeks!!! No feedback no information, no response on email notthing. The dealer just says they do not know when get it back.

I have 2 issues with this. First, how can Sony have such miserable quality. I have browsed the internet, and this is a common problem. Still they seem to be completely unprepared.

Secondly, how can it take more than 5 week (I still do not have it, so I do not know how long it can take) to either replace the DVD player or provide a new unit? Is this common practice by Sony.

Eveni if i have been a Playstation user, I do not recommend getting any Sony products. The support is miserable, and it is especially upsetting provided the PS3s are expensive.
