Add new features or ideas you would like to see implemented in Soocial. We will do everything we can to make Soocial rock!

Good point, we'll be looking into this as more users than expected have let us know they want Thunderbird support. -
Inappropriate?Thunderbird (it's a good market, because most sync apps don't target it because it seems too small - has ~10m users, though)

Pedro, I assume you mean from the connections page? For web app connections (like Highrise and GMail) this is possible and a good idea. For phones or OSX this is a lot harder as these are typical clients that we cannot poll without the client initiating the connection.

Inappropriate?Definitely need to be able to limit GMail contacts to only a specific Group. This is currently the only way in GMail to divide out your "real" contacts, and so we should be able to sync with only that group!1 Comment Add a comment

Hi Elliot, we are working on this, should be ready in the next month - the thing is that we want to offer functionality for all connections so users can filter how they want what contacts to sync. We'll have a tagging system so you can tag contacts and then filter based on those tags. Contacts coming from GMail (and you can choose specific groups) can be auto tagged and thus only those contacts will be kept in sync.

Reinout, good point. We are working in a solution that will allow exactly this. Currently the bandwidth limitations of phones and the fact that OSX sends 256K pictures is something we need to solve. Thanks for the idea though, please keep them coming. ;-)

Inappropriate?Sync pictures is very important... more easy to remember some one with a picture ! Specially i you have many contacts.

but so hard to do right. Think about a phone which supports only small pictures while you want the high resolution ones on your computer or iPhone. Somehow we must detect similarity between small and large pictures to make updates possible.

We are looking at adding pictures, but no concrete plans yet.
We do have concrete plans however of implementing groups and syncing across the many platforms. Can't give you an exact ETA though, but it will allow for powerful ways of organizing your contacts, you can filter syncs based on the groups you want synced to each device.

Thunderbird sync would be great, especially as Thunderbird 3 is hopefully going to integrate Address Book, plus the Lightning extension allows for syncing of Google calendars.
Also, syncing of just certain groups would be great- I don't sync my Gmail contacts in Soocial at the moment as my Gmail contact list is full of junk.

Syncing of certain groups in Gmail is an interesting idea and its something we've been considering.
We've taking some measures to prevent junk email addresses from getting synced with Soocial. For example, Soocial will only sync contacts in GMail that have a real name or an organization name defined, which blocks all contacts that only consist of an info@... or support@... from cluttering up your address book.
And about Thunderbird 3, if it integrates with OS X Address book it'll automatically be in sync with Soocial since the OS X Address book is kept in sync.

Would be great to have a 'de-dupe' button (though I know it's integrated), maybe even with an option to 'Merge selected entries'
