Duplicate contacts
Each time I sync from my mac address book, some of my contacts are written as new contact in soocial. After a few sync, this contacts appear many times in my soocial contact list. Hopefully there not synced back to my mac address book.
Any idea why?

Inappropriate?Hi Pierre,
That should only occur if you are unable to complete a sync fully. Could you turn on the debug mode for OS X as described here: http://getsatisfaction.com/soocial/to...
If you send us the log of what's going on we can help you identify what's going on and fix the problem. -
Inappropriate?Thank you for the quick answer. You were right apparently the synchronization isn't complete. Here's the last lines of the debug log

Inappropriate?Hi Piere,
Thanks - I think we have enough with the bit you posted. I haven't seen this problem before so it's extra valuable, thank you very much : )
Thanks for the bug report, we'll be working on it an we'll get back to you with an answer or a fix as soon as we can.
I’m happy with new bugreports
-
Inappropriate?I'm also getting lots of duplicates. Yesterday I had 350 entries in my Mac address book and today I find 2000+. After combining all the duplicates I am left with ~700 contacts, the new ones coming from Gmail. This suggests to me that fixing your bug yesterday (according to Soocial's Twitter message) caused Gmail syncing to work completely for me for the first time but also introduced a ton of duplicates.
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?Hi Peter,
Sorry about that, at http://www.soocial.com/backups you can always reset to a recent backup.
From what I can tell in the logs is that your OS X sync hasn't completed a 'full' sync since the 12th of June. This means that each time it's starting from scratch, sending all contacts again which could cause lots of duplicates. Could you try turning it off, removing it from the OS X preferences and reinstalling it?
After that please turn on the debug mode as described here http://getsatisfaction.com/soocial/to... so we can get a better look at what's going on on your end.
Sorry for the hassle!
I’m not happy with dupes
-
Inappropriate? The backup problem was solved in a novel way: a Soocial update deleted ALL my contacts in Address Book.
Unfortunately the only backup Address Book Soocial has for me is from June 5, and I have added several contacts since then. Am I up a smelly creek without a paddle?
I’m upset all my contacts are gone
-
Inappropriate?Hi Peter,
So sorry about that happening, I can tell you it should't be happening in the first place but that's not going to help you at all since it did happen.
We'll be able to get the contacts back for you manually, but it would help if you could answer the following questions as they would help us nail this problem to make sure it doesn't re-occur
- were the contacts you are missing now created after Soocial made your backup?
- how many are you missing approximately?
Could you turn on the debug mode as described here http://getsatisfaction.com/soocial/to... and send us the console log so we can get a better idea of what's going on at your end?
I’m very sorry for the trouble
-
Inappropriate?Great! I would say that I probably created 10 contacts since the June 5 backup. And I'm missing all of my ~ 400 or 700 contacts (depending on whether you count the Gmail ones that were just synced a few days ago).
And I tried to turn on debug mode using your method but now I'm also getting the blank preference screen some people are reporting.
I’m thankful Soocial has another backup
-
Inappropriate?Hi Peter,
Are you on OS X Tiger? -
Inappropriate?10.4.11
-
Inappropriate?Hi Peter,
It looks like there's a bit of a difference between Tiger and Leopard on how they deal with preferences. By typing the following into Terminal.app followed by a return fixed it for me, you might need to quit & reopen your System Preferences afterwards:
defaults write com.soocial.SoocialSync SoocialShowDebugButton -bool yes
I'm currently cleaning up your contacts and removing all duplicates, I'll mail you when its finished. Sorry for the hassle. -
Inappropriate? Thanks, Simon. Where are the debug logs written, so I can send them to you?
-
Inappropriate? They're written in the Console.app program in Applications/Utilities,
thanks! -
Inappropriate?Peter,
Your problem has identified a number of problems with our merging mechanism, so sorry it happened with you but thanks for the feedback because it's helped us find & nail it.
I'm doing one more duplicate detection run over your contacts and if all goes well you'll have them in your mailbox shortly -
Inappropriate?Any update on this? just to tell you I still have the same issue (same debug log).
I’m undecided
-
Pierre, are you still having the same issues? We have rewritten large sections of our sync server and are in the proces of more updates. Hopefully this will fix your syncing woes once and for all! -
I wasn't much online the past weeks so I didn't really pay attention but I just checked and apparently there's no more problem, everything seems to sync correctly. The contact list on soocial website is normal and got no more duplicate. Thanks
