Duplicate contacts after initial Gmail sync
1. Can you please fix the bug?
2. Will the auto-merge eventually make these disappear?
The more people who report this problem, the more it gets noticed.

Inappropriate?> Can you please fix the bug?
Yes, of course. I'm sorry it's not already done.
> Will the auto-merge eventually make these disappear?
Well that's the plan, but if it's not working somehow I can probably help you out. I can manually start the auto-merger for your account if you send me a mail at (my_name) at soocial.com that includes your soocial-username. -
Please don't mail me your problems; start a topic on get satisfaction or contact www.aa.org -
Inappropriate?Hi there, Tijn. Good to know that it's a bug and not me doing something silly ;)
I checked my address book just now and it's still not merged, so I will send you an email.
I’m patient

Inappropriate?Hi guys,
Sorry for the delay. I has been very nice weather in the NL, so I have not been sitting behind my Mac a lot.
The merge in Soocial had taken place. However, it now looks like I have 400+ extra contacts (from 1000 to 1400) in my address book. Consider this ticket as closed, however.
I’m thankful

... maar toen kwam de regen. Pff, Nederlanders, altijd weer dat gepraat over het weer :-P

Extra contacts? Do you mean people you don't know or duplicate contacts?
I’m confused but nevertheless happy to consider a ticket as closed

Duplicates again! It looks like people without an email address and only one phone number (that come from my mobile phone, of course). Some of these have been recreated (by Soocial?) about 2 or 3 times.

The similarity-calculating algorithm now works like this (well.. more or less):
For two contacts: if the names correspond and one extra field too, then the similarity-score will be high enough to automatically merge those contacts*. We decided for this approach to prevent us from automatically merging all "John Smiths" and "Peter de Vries"-en, names for different people you're likely to know more than one of.
(*) but we'll only merge with the contact with the highest similarity-scores if a contact is mergeable with multiple contacts.
If the contact in Soocial contains a phone-number, Soocial should be merging it with the contact coming from your phone. I can only say that it works for me with all our test phones, could you test it too? (You can easily backup your contacts before trying.) If it's not working your phone is 'special' and I sure like to know about it.
Please keep me updated!
I’m confident we'll tackle this problem

Inappropriate?I am only syncing my Gmail contacts with my Soocial account. No other sync for now. I am doing this on purpose, so nothing is troubling the cause.
Guys, it really looks like Soocial or Google is automagically creating contacts. It wasn't me.
(Yes, that's me repeating Shaggy)
I’m still convinced Soocial's messing this up

Inappropriate?Hi Breggol,
Although we're not sure why there are autmagically created contacts - we are re-factoring large parts of the GMail sync. We are currently creating a new queue that will enable a much cleaner way of syncing. I'm not sure this will fix your problem but it WILL make it easier for us to find the problem.
Sorry your experiencing so much hassle. But that's what you get for quoting shaggy! ;-) -
Inappropriate? We've got our new GMail connections online now - give it a try! :)
I’m happy with the new code!
