Duplicates galore
After a whole heap of Nokia sync's that didn't complete. I have duplicate records to feed the world. Please can you possibly run the de-duper over my account. If this gets no where I guess we'll have to reset.

this answers the question

Inappropriate?Ok, that didn't get me there. I can't work out why people are not merging together. All the individuals have the same name. Any thoughts?
-
Inappropriate?Luke, I'm sorry. Yesterday I scheduled a dedupe-job but apparently I made a mistake there. It never ran. I'm doing it again and I'm keeping an eye on it... (at 47% now)
-
Inappropriate? Thanks, the de-dupe worked perfectly. However now facing a follow on problem.
As all my contacts were screwed up on my Nokia E65, I did the following:
- removed the phone from Soocial
- deleted all the contacts on my phone (Mark All -> Delete)
- Re-added my phone to Soocial
- Ran a sync
The sync reports complete and successful (after working through all 340 contacts), however no contacts get added to the phone.
A look at the phone log shows that the Nokia has ‘Discarded 340 Contacts’. Not the result desired.
The only thing I can think has happened is that the Nokia holds some kind of GUID of all records current and deleted. The server sends down the contact and the Nokia discards it because it recognises the ‘Deleted GUID’ ????
Any thoughts on how I can fix this up? -
The GUID idea would be very strange. Why would Nokia do such a thing? -
Inappropriate?A hard reset of my Nokia phone didn't fix this issue. Can you see anything in the server side logs? It just seems crazy that after a de-dupe all the contacts are getting discarded.
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?- removed the phone from Soocial
- deleted all the contacts on my phone (Mark All -> Delete)
- Re-added my phone to Soocial
- Ran a sync
This should work. There's probably something else going on... let me take a look at your account...
I see you have 2 phones "Nokia E65" and "NOKIA E65". If you only removed the one with the picture, ... well, I think you did, since that would explain the whole story.
If you want to slow sync again. Just remove both phones from your connections tab on the website or reset them; then sync again. There's no need for you to retrieve the configuration settings again.
Good luck. Let us know if it worked.

Inappropriate?I have tried to do what you requested previously with no joy. Just to be sure I gave it another go this morning.... but I got 'Server not responding' which I think is unrelated. I'll give it a try again later.
Not sure if this has anything to do with it... but my Gmail sync hasn't synced since Sunday which is a touch odd. -
Server not responding might be because we're moving servers. Have you since tried it again? -
Inappropriate?Just another thought... I am wondering about a total reset on my Soocial account. I have downloaded the contacts to a .vcf just in case. If you think appropriate, please go crazy on the account.
-
I'm going crazy on the account, but I won't delete your contacts. You can try to sync again now. If it doesn't work you can clear your contacts and put the vcf back anyway. -
Inappropriate? The issue previous was that Vodafone's internet connectivity dropped. However now its back up. So now I am getting 'Invalid Host Address' when I try and connect to Sync. Argh.
-
Inappropriate?So... today is not my lucky day. There is a stupid ruby-problem on our super duper new sync-server. :-(. We're nocturnal creatures so we are fixing it now. I'm sure we'll figure it out and all will be well again soon.
I’m tired
-
Inappropriate?Looks like you fixed the ruby issue as I was able to connect. Again it discarded the 340 contacts.
So I thought, screw it, lets try from scratch. I've deleted all my contacts and added one test contact. I deleted all sync connections on the account.
I then kicked off a sync from my phone to the server. And sure enough it downloaded the 1 test contact BUT discarded it again. *Sigh*. Is the best option to blow away my account and start again or do you want to try and find the root cause of the discards?

I'll take a look at the logs now -
Inappropriate? Each contact soocial sent to you phone got a response like this:
"415 Unsupported media type or format. The unsupported content type or format SHOULD also be identified in the Item element type in the Status."
Basically, we send you a vcard3.0 while you phone wants 2.1. I don't know why this is suddenly happening or why your phone is not complaining about it. I will try to figure out now why we're sending you 3.0-vcards. (you found a bug.)
-
btw... clearing soocial will have no positive effect on your phone syncs. -
Inappropriate?OK, well I am stoked that its a bug that's been found. It means all this effort isn't in vain. I had a look at the VCF I exported with all the contacts and can see that yes its all in VCard v3.0 format. I think this issue has always existed as I have seen 'Discards' on my syncs before (and not known why). My guess (and its an uneducated one) is perhaps that the de-duper when acting on a contact is changing it to v3.0??? hence previously I was getting a mix of v3.0 and v2.1 vcards?
-
Inappropriate?I found the bug in the code and wrote a fix. I'm running tests now and if all goes well I can deploy it in a minute or 2.
No, stop guessing, you'll never guess what has changed. :-P
I’m glad I found it
-
deployed the fixed sync server. You may try again. -
Inappropriate?as they say - a little knowledge in the wrong hands... (pointing the finger at myself) :-)
I’m willing Tijn on.
-
Inappropriate?OK - tried again after you deployed. Still same error - Discarded.
-
Inappropriate?but we are sending a 2.1 vcard...
It's strange that your phone deletes the contact, since soocial is aborting the sync. Don't you see a message on your screen?
-
Inappropriate?Yup the message flashes up for .25 of a second. It reads: Your phone is having trouble syncing with http:// ...social.. address. Contact *something* for support.
-
boh, at least that's right then... -
Inappropriate?I'd like to get to the bottom of this. I'm going to change this test-contact of yours a bit and then if you would try to sync again we might find the cause so I can fix it later. Is that okay?
(I have 2 things I want to try, thats 2 times syncing.)
I’m silly
-
Inappropriate?Okay, everything's set up. I simpy changed your test-contact to be more 2.1-ish. It might just work. You can try to sync again. I don't think I'll be awake much longer---it's 3:33am where I am---so try to sync whenever you like and make sure you post your success stories here. (I'll sleep with my fingers crossed.)
(If it works, I'll write you another fix for your phone.)
I’m seriously silly
-
Inappropriate?Hi Luke,
I found a phone with the same problem (E61) and I was able to write a workaround-fix for it. The stuff that made S40-phones work made some S60-phones (yours) fail syncs... anyhow, I enabled this fix for your E65 too. Could you try to sync again; I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
I’m smiling, cause people seem to like you better when you smile a lot
-
Inappropriate? Thanks for your persistence. I had a try at sync this morning after
your note. Same error.
-
gaah! grmbldgrmbl... it's a mystery, but I'm going to solve it! -
Inappropriate?...like sherlock holmes and the hounds of syncaville...
looking forward to success. I'd send you the phone if I wasn't 12,000kms away.
I’m optimistic
-
Inappropriate?Did you change something? Because I just synced and it error and it didn't discard the test contact (i.e. it worked). I'll wait until you give the green light before I restore my contacts and try a sync of all my contacts.
-
Inappropriate?wait, IT-brain says 'does not parse'... it (seems to have) worked, but did you or didn't you get an error?
I’m probably being compared to a detective but maybe to a ghost dog... either way, I like!
-
Inappropriate? No error what so ever. The only thing that has changed on the phone since the last time I attempted a sync was that I keyed in 5 new contacts on my phone. That's it.
I'm going to upload my 300~ contacts onto Soocial and try a sync. Will let you know how it goes.
I’m stoked, although marginally confused.
-
Inappropriate?OK, restored my contacts into Soocial then phone sync. Sync was successful with no errors.
