Duplicates of contact copies with different Gmail groups

I tried out the Gmail sync using a test gmail-account, since I have tried out other services before (with no happy results...).

* I synced the Soocial contact list straight to my gmail-accout (with no priori contacts). I the removed the Soocial connection with Gmail.
* In Gmail I selected a few of the contacts and assigned groups to them, some only one group others two. I also added a couple of test contacts which did not exist in Soocial's lists.
* I then delete all contacts, but the ones in groups, the test contacts and two with no group assigned.
* After doing this, I added the gmail-account as a connection again, and chose to sync with Soocial.

I notice that the contacts I assigned to groups are duplicated, although they should be "exact" copies from Soocial's first sync. Is the group assignment enough to cause duplicates to be created? Or is this something that potentially would be solved by the deduper process on Soocial, if I only wait a while more?

Is this a known issue or something new? I notice there are similar issues reported here before, but none only caused by group assignment.

It would be great to know if this is known/solvable, so that I can connect my regular gmail-account. [Which would also benefit from only syncing specific groups of contacts, by the way :-) ]

Thanks.
