Field mapping and config of setup for iPhone, Soocial & Gmail
Which is better option to use for synchronising contacts with iPhone/iPod touch, Soocial and Gmail/Google Contacts?
Option 1: Using iPhone SyncML app, i.e. sync Soocial<->iPhone + sync Connection Soocial<->Gmail
Option 2: Using iPhone's/Gmail's Exchange support, i.e. sync Connection Soocial<->Gmail + (push) Exchange sync iPhone<->Gmail
Option 3: Using iPhone SyncInAblink app for Gmail sync, i.e. sync Soocial<->Gmail + (manual) sync using SyncInABlink iPhone<>Gmail
Are there other, even better, options? Please, advice.
The SyncInABlink forum has been quiet lately, so I am worrying about what that means. Furthermore, I would prefer to keep Soocial in the centre (i.e. being the master) of my synchronisation, so reduce the number of field mapping conversions.
What I am uncertain of is how field mapping interfere with the above setups. For instance; how are groups handled in the various setups? Exchange sync for iPhone does not support the Gmail groups. And what about pictures? The newly implemented structured addresses in Gmail? Other fields that are missing or not transfered.
It would actually be great to have a table with all fields and their respective mapping when syncing/connecting to various services.
Your feedback would be highly appreciated.

Inappropriate?Hey there!
Honestly, I think #1 is the best option. Not only because it keeps Soocial in full control of your contacts but also because it doesn't rely on Exchange (which may or may not be an issue for you).
If you use the Synthesis client you will have groups and pictures on your phone while if you sync via GMail you most likely won't as we don't push pictures to GMail yet.
We're already using the latest GMail API that supports structured data for names and postal address (even though their own interface isn't doing it correctly yet).
This setup also makes it trivial for you to add more devices like a desktop computer or a second phone.
Regardless of which option you end up choosing please let us know if you run into any issues.

Inappropriate?Hmm. Tried the Synthesis client. It did not sync the groups to my iPhone? Anything I need to configure?
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?Hi KMK, you are right, sorry about the confusion and getting your hopes up hish. Soocial does send group information to the iPhone and the Synthesis client says it supports groups. However after further investigation it doesn't.
What's worse is that if you send a contact belonging to particular group (let's say 'friends') to the iPhone then edit that contact and sync it back through Soocial to your Mac, the iPhone will send the edited info but not the group info thus removing it from the group on your Mac (or any other connection in Soocial).
So we will contact Synthesis and see if this is a bug or a limitation of the iPhone SDK API. In the mean time we will work around the issue of the removing of contacts from groups, but are dependent on Synthesis to fix it on the iPhone.
Will keep you posted and hope this explanation makes sense.
I’m anxious to get groups working correctly

Inappropriate?Hi Stefan,
Appreciate your feedback. The SyncInABlink iPhone app does support group syncing with Gmail. I would assume they are using official APIs from Apple, but don't know. It is possible to achieve anyway, which may be a good thing to know for the Synthesis people.
Look forward to hearing about the progress.
I’m anxiously waiting for groups to work
