Google + Blackberry + Google Sync + Address Fields
Hi again,
Some detected issues with addresses.
I'm using Google Sync v0.5.11 to sync my BB contacts.
Fields from BB are:
Address1
Address2
City
State
CP
Country
Usually address2 field are blank and when synced Blackberry -> Google the contact fields are:
Address1
(blank line /n)
City
State
CP
Country
But I've noticed that you Soocial sync with Gmail in other way (Soocial -> Google):
Address1
(blank line /n)
(blank line /n)
City
State
CP
Country
So there is a problem.
In fact I have sinced with no contacts here in Soocial from Google (BB -> Google -> Soocial) and all Address fields are wrong, the resulted fields here in Soocila are:
Address1
State
CP
Country
(blank = country)
(blank = pobox)
City
So, why do you add 2 blank lines yo Google instead only 1, any idea?
Thanks.

Inappropriate?Hey Carblanco,
Thanks for reporting that. To make a long story short. Part of the problem is that the Blackberry does not have a PO box field. So they don't have to make room for that.
Soocial does have a PO box field. And if that is empty we will leave a blank line.
In the end all of this is caused by Gmail having a very basic way o handling contacts. They don't make use of Vcards like Soocial does.
This might explain it a bit more:
I have numbered the fields to make clear what the difference is.
This is what the Blackberry sends to Gmail:
1. Address1
2. Address2
3. City
4. state/prov
5. ZIP
6. Country
This is how we send it to Gmail
1. street pobox
PO Box
2. extended
3. locality
4. region
5. postal_code
6. country
Now we could decide to put the PO box at the end. But that could cause other poroblems.
We will look in to this. Not sure what we will do.
But! We will have our own client ready soon and then it will not be an issue anymore.
I’m undecided
-
Inappropriate?Ok, I see...
Maybe you could merge them like:
1. line street pobox + PO Box
2. extended
3. locality
4. region
5. postal_code
6. country
I’m unsure
-
Inappropriate?Yes that would make sense. But when syncing back to Soocial we have no way of knowing if it is a Street or PO Box. So we have to come up with some workaround.
-
Inappropriate?and why Google not want to add different fields for addresses instead a big box?
waiting for your blackberry client...
I’m confused
