Hundreds of duplicates not being detected
I have hundreds of duplicates in my Soocial account. Why is duplicate detection not working? The duplicates were created since I started using Soocial, when my gmail and Address book were synched. It seems to have added about 500 contacts which must be duplicates, and many are very obviously so from browsing through. I have disconnected from Soocial since it keeps seeming to cause problems and more work for me with duplicates - is there any way to clean up the duplicates on my account? Have there been any improvements that should stop this happening again, so I can regain my trust in Soocial?

Inappropriate?Hey Greg,
Sorry this hasn't been hassle free for you. Just a quick question. Do you sync with any other solution at the same time? That can sometimes create a horrible lover triangle. If you send your username to support(at soocial dot com) we can do a manual dedupe.
I’m sorry Greg got hassled by Soocial

Inappropriate? Thanks for the quick response. I had previously been using Plaxo sync on the same address book, but that was de-installed before I started with Soocial. I have now manually transferred my address book (export and then import) to another computer, and deleted some dups. What will happen if I link that address book back to my Soocial account?
I will send an email to support with my username.
I’m happier

Inappropriate?I am also having the same issue. It was after my first initial sync with Gmail.
Now my G1 has so many contacts I almost considered removing Soocial from my list of applications I use.
I would like to continue to use it, but these duplicates are not acceptable.
Is there any way you are able to help with this?
I also forgot to mention I am only synching with the Soocial OS X client, and my Gmail account.
Thanks
I’m annoyed

Hey Corey, Sorry for the hassle! If you send your username to support (at soocial dot com) we can run a deduper. -
Bart, I appreciate the response!!
I think I may have figured out something you might find useful:
Instead of having to de-dupe everything, I decided to see if I could easily fix the problem, and it turns out the Mac OS client was sort of the cause. I basically deleted my contacts from my Mac Address Book, and let Soocial populate it.
This only worked because I had a fresh address book and all the contacts were imported from online. The interesting thing about it is how Soocial seems to not discern between duplicates that were imported from the Mac - it just seems to put them right next to their Soocial entries; Hence, creating duplicates :)
So far, I am back on track to keep using Soocial like I wanted!!
Next stop, Android support and/or better contact manager :) -
Inappropriate?Corey,
Smart thinking! We will improve the similarity detecting as we go. So, I guess the duplicates were only in the Address Book.
I’m happy Corey fixed his own problems

Inappropriate?I have a very similar problem - after using soocial for some time as part of my syncing solution with no problems I started getting duplications. Even after manual deletion from all accounts they creep back and then I end up having 20, 30 or 40 versions of some contacts. I sync with my gmail and with my outlook account. Gmail is then synced with my iPhone through iTunes on windows. The Outlook sync regularly says that the sync can not complete - see logs for details. But the only logs I could find are empty (maybe I'm looking in the wrong place).
Any ideas?
Stuart

Inappropriate?Stuart,
i am seeing where things can go wrong. We do not recommend a setup where there are multiple syncing solutions in the loop. This is known to create all kinds of mayhem like duplication of contacts and endless updating. I checked your contacts and some of them have been updated 270 times ore more.
Would you be able to start using the synthesis app from the Itunes store? This will directly connect to your Soocial contacts and should bring things to a rest. -
Inappropriate?Hi Bart, I have tried using the synthesis app but it keeps failing to sync, sometimes with an network error and sometimes with a 'Invalid data from server (wrong URL?)' error.
