Mac OS X 10.5.5 + Gmail - sync creating duplicates and now impossible to 'reset' the account...
I use Soocial to sync between Mac OS X 10.5.5 Address Book and Gmail address book.
I had a couple of issues:
- some contacts duplicated
- several contacts with the name field duplicated (i.e. Luck Skywalker would become Luke Luke Skywalker...)
- troubles syncing the "middle name" field I use a lot in my Mac Address Book (I use it for the nickname rather than the middle name, 'cause it's there by default...). A lot of contacts with middle name had the middle name field duplicated in the surname file (i.e. Luck 'mr.jedi' Skywalker would become Luke 'mr.jedi' 'mr.jedi' Skywalker, where the second mr jedi appears in the surname field...)
Finally, the sync broke and no contacts are exchanged now between gmail and soocial or between mac and soocial :-(
The soocial client tells me 'Sending message One / Receiving message Two', or 'Sending message two / receiving message three'... and every now and then 0 contacts sent, 0 contacts received...
Well... I cleaned up my connections and contacts in soocial to start over again.
I managed to delete the contacts, and I reinstalled the client on the mac, but I cannot get rid of the mac in the connectios... I keep hitting delete but it doesn't go away...
I guess I need a bit of support to reset the account (davide.pignedoli AT gmail.com)
Thanks
Davide

Inappropriate?Hey d4vide,
I checked you account. It seems to be syncing continuously. That is the reason you can't remove the connection. Every time you sync and the connection is removed, we'll add the connection back to the page. What version of the client do you have?

Inappropriate?Hi Bart
thanks for the answer...
In the meanwhile I've managed to remove everything from the connections and the contacts and I've started from scratch.
It seems to be working fine (at a first look), although the website looks like it's not updating properly the contacts and the status - I've 387 contacts in my mac, 380 on soocial and 385 on Gmail now...
When I run a sync now from my client, it says "no contacts sent/no received", but on the connections webpage it looks like the last sync was run only yesterday...
It's kind of difficult to understand what's missing and why... I'll try to leave the AddressBook alone for 24 hours and see if they'll sync properly...
I'm running the last client version (downloaded yesterday).
About this... the client is not prompting me for any update (it's configured for a daily check), but if I run a manual check it's asking me to update with the SAME version (see image)...
Not a big issue, but I wonder if I'm the only one having it...
Thanks
davide

Inappropriate?Hi
I've waited for more or less 1 day and there seems to be no change...
Not all of the contacts (don't know who's missing...) I have on my Mac are showing up in soocial (missing 6 or 7) or on gmail (missing a couple more...).
I've also created a new contact on mac and one on gmail (to see if the bidirectional sync works adding new contacts).
Odd enough, they didn't show up for 1 day at least... but appeared all of sudden both on mac and gmail (great news!) as soon as I visited soocial website...
My client is set up for a check every 30 minutes...
Suggestions?
Davide
I’m frustrated again

Inappropriate?Hey davide,
All the contacts should be in Soocial now. They were waiting for merging. But it was never happening.
The contacts not making it to Gmail are probably contacts that contain e-mail addresses that are already in Gmail for a contact. Gmail allows every e-mail address only once. The only way to get those in to Gmail is by deleting them in Gmail.
Hope that helps.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Hi Bart,
I understand the problem with Gmail...
But still in soocial I've got missing contacts...
I could try another clean-up... delete everything from gmail and soocial and start again with an upload from the addressbook, if you say that might solve the issue.
Cheers
Davide

Inappropriate?Sorry Davide, took me a bit. We had an issue with the "reset" function.
Well, been finding out some stuff about your account. You kinda atracted different smaller issues that caused things not to go as they should.
Yes, please do start over. Please reset you contacts and connections and then set them up again so we will do a fresh import from the different sources.
Let me know if you run in to any trouble. You can mail me directly at bart at soocial com
I’m hopefull
