Microsoft Outlook sync problem
Hi, I am using soocial to sync contacts from :
- Outlook 2003
- gmail
- Windows Live
Gmail and Windows Live sync works great, but have a problem with Outlook.
On Windows, I choose "Soocial" --> "Open Status Window" --> "Sync Now"
The progress bar progresses from 0% to 100%
But NO SYNC happens.
Status says "Last synced: 3 days ago"
Can someone help?
Is there a way to turn on logging and view log files so I can help diagnose this problem?
Thanks
Edited to add:
I should mention that Outlook Sync was working, until about a few days ago.
But now it no longer works.

Inappropriate?Hey joyjit,
so, it did work a while? Did you install any other Outlook plug-ins in the mean time? We need your user name to investigate. You can send it to support (at soocial dot com) -
Inappropriate?I have sent email to support.
And yes, it did work for a while. It stopped working sometime around Aug 31, I think.
And no, I did not install any other Outlook plug-in since then.
(I might have un-installed the Plaxo Outlook plug-in though, I don't remember)
Thanks -
Inappropriate?Checked your logs joyit,
nothing out of the ordinary to see. One more thing you can try is to first unistall all plugins, then use the "detect and repair" option from the Outlook help tab.
After that reinstall the Soocial client, and see if it works.
What also might be a solution, is to make a backup of your contact. Then empty outlook and see if you can sync then.
Sorry for the hassle joyit. We see have seen this problem occasionally. We do not yet know what the cause is. We have not been able to reproduce it. You would really help us out a lot if you can fix this on your computer and in the process figure out what was causing it.
There might also be some error log in the Soocial "program_files" folder. If there is we would like to know the content and the date. -
Inappropriate?Unfortunately, no luck yet
1. Deleted all Outlook contacts
2. Tried Sync. Problem STILL exists
3. Uninstalled and re-installed soocial
4. Tried Sync. Problem STILL exists
5. From www.soocial.com/connections, deleted the Outlook connection
6. From Outlook, Tried Sync. Problem STILL exists
7. Additionally, the connection now shows up as "unnamed device"! (see attached image)

Also, I do not see any log files under "C:\Program Files\Soocial". I only see exe and dlls and .manifest files.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Minor improvement, but main problem still exists:
8. I uninstalled Soocial
9. Outlook --> Help --> Detect and Repair.
10. Re-install Soocial
11. Do a Sync. Problem STILL exists.
. but on soocial.com now the connection name appears correctly.

Inappropriate? After upgrading to the latest version of Soocial client v 0.9.104, the problem still remains, unfortunately. (I did follow instructions about uninstall first followed by a re-install)

Inappropriate?joyjit,
the new version changes the actual syncing behavior. Unfortunatelly it does not solve your problem. One more thing to check: Is the Outlook.pst file in the default location?
C:\Documents and Settings\user_id\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook (XP)
C:\Users\user_id\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.pst.(Vista) -
Inappropriate?Hi Bart,
In my C:\Documents and Settings\user_id\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook directory, there is a outlook.ost outlook.nst but no outlook.pst file.
( I use Outlook with an exchange server and I do not have any local folders, should there be a local .pst file?)
Thanks -
Inappropriate?Joyit,
Yes, the Soocial sync won't work without it. The client is not made to properly support Outlook that is hooked up to Exchange. It seems to work for some people. Fact is that the client talks directly to the Outlook.pst file. When that is not there, unfortunately it won't error out, but just goes through the motions.
This is the next thing we will fix in the client. But for now, it is not going to work..... -
Inappropriate?Joyit,
did you change something to your outlook? All of a sudden the sync seemed to have one stage further. Did you make an outlook.pst file? -
Inappropriate?Bart
No, I dont think I changed anything (other than un-installing and re-installing Soocial a few times).
Also see http://getsatisfaction.com/soocial/to...
Where my entire Outlook contacts seemed to get deleted, don't yet know how or why.
Also, how does one get to have an outlook.pst file? -
Inappropriate?Bart,
How do I create an outlook.pst file?
Also, how come my first few syncs (back in Aug) worked? -
Inappropriate?joyit,
That is a very good point. It did work. We need to dig in to this and see how the client deals with exchange. It is a quite a blackbox at the moment.
