My contact list keeps growing from duplication

I had some duplicates so I did the following: Started with a clean Outlook contacts folder, added Outlook connection, then added Gmail (Google Apps) connection. Now some contacts are quintuplicated(?) (well, there are five of 'em) some only 3, some 4. A few are ok and show only once. This is in Outlook as well as Google Contacts.

Went through FAQs and this forum, but did not find anything helpful....
Any help would be appreciated!
